autoalain Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Insurance guys, say total loss, adjuster suggested I make a bid, it's back in my hanger, I wonder if a $1.00 would be too high. AHHH. engine has 510 hours on it. 3 Quote
MARZ Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Man.... I feel for you - but I sure would put some numbers to it before I made a hasty decision. Quote
HRM Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Ouch! Again the opposite of 'plane porn' unless you want to call this BDSM. Sorry for your loss. Quote
Cruiser Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Doesn't look so bad I little Elmer's glue and some sand paper, she'll be good as new What a shame Quote
steingar Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Is there anyone left who can repair that wing? Quote
DXB Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Sorry - sucks. Unless you're in the parts business, it's probably worth taking the payout and calling it a day on this plane. Quote
ValkyrieRider Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Disappointing seeing the pictures, but seeing you standing (safely) next to her, makes it easier to see. Glad you and your passenger were safe. 2 Quote

EricJ Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 Very sorry to see. Sometimes there is a time to walk away, though. Best of luck whatever transpires. Quote
carusoam Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 Somebody had parts of an M20A for sale around here... not sure where that is... fuzzy memory at best... Thanks for posting the pics. They sure are a reminder of what changing wind conditions can do... Best regards, -a- Quote
KSMooniac Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 Is there anyone left who can repair that wing? There is a wood wing Mooney specialist in Halstead, KS that might be able to fix it.Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote
Jerry Pressley Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 Lots of Bellanca men still around. I would search in the Bellanca world and unless there is something tough damaged inside this would be a rather easy repair. If you love her and know her I would look into repairs. Quote
mike20papa Posted July 10, 2018 Report Posted July 10, 2018 What happened? Moose on the runway? if the spar is okay, perhaps only shear web damage - it's doable. Otherwise ... There are better options. Quote

Even easier if no ribs need repair or replacing. My opinion is scarfing joints with plywood is easier than working with metal. If you can get it back cheap enough then I would say do it. Hire a cabinet maker and he can make that wing better than new. Quote
carusoam Posted July 11, 2018 Report Posted July 11, 2018 @autoalain I looked up the M20A parts for sale... in case there is an opportunity for two to become one flyable bird... Best regards, -a- Quote

autoalain Posted July 11, 2018 Author Report Posted July 11, 2018 Thanks for comments, what really pisses me off is the error in winds forecast, at 7am when I checked the weather was 6 klms from the SW, forecast for the next 6 hours was 8 klm again from the SW. well coming in on final i was surprised to have 25 klms from the north, direct x wind, should I have gone somewhere else, yes, pilot error, yes. wind shear yes, ashamed, yes. after 500 hours on her I still made some bad decisions. Mike. Quote

Mike. Shit happens. Important thing is you walked away. Go airplane shopping, get another Mooney. Quote
kerry Posted July 11, 2018 Report Posted July 11, 2018 From the pictures that wing looks repairable. The plywood on the wing walk area was to thin from the factory and has a tendency to become weak over time. This is a chance to strengthen the wing walk area with thicker plywood. I hope you can get it back from the insurance company at a great price. It would be a shame not to see it airworthy again. 1 Quote
