Overhaul the iron gyro for 500$ and kick the can down the road 3 years. Then see what’s out there.

This is where I'm at right now. Mine is getting noisier after shut down. Every now and then it is all wonky for a little bit before leveling out after startup. I would love to go glass on it but just can't bring myself to do it just yet.

These guys have on their website that they will OH it for $360. Has anybody had any experience with Aircraft Quality Instruments out of Wichita, KS?

Marauder,

What is next for the panel that has nearly every base covered...?

Add Synthetic vision option?

Update the perfectly good Aspen system to a newer version?

Paul,

Great brief explanation on rate based and attitude based APs that are in our Mooneys, and when it is important to have an EA100.  :)

I think I heard Peter ordering an I-watch with an app to simulate the face of a nice Swiss time piece.... listening closely, he’ll hear the electronic tick, tick, tick... of course, paying for the app to cover the IP of the Swiss company... :)

Best rgeards,

That was supposed to be a secret Anthony!

Seriously at the present time I have no desire to remove my King HSI, aka swiss timepiece, any time soon. And here’s why: as simple a reason as it may sound, it performs flawlessly without asking for any money in return. That has value and I’m not willing to throw it away. It’s a depreciating asset providing free cash flow! So I will continue to receive my free cash flow until some future point in time when it decides to complain. During my 10 years of ownership it has only required a grand total of 600$ in maintenance. That’s like 50¢ per flight hour. 300$ of that was for a sensor in the gyro and another 300$ to Bob Bramble for a sticky GS and going over the HSI itself. Going by this track record that point will be well into the future. At that point I will evaluate and decide. The avionics landscape continues to evolve and options will be more clearly defined and settled than they are today.

I have two of their gyros with over 500hr each and still doing great.  I recommend them.

Well I pulled the DG for the HSI but my friend has it in his Dakota and no complaints

Should be around 15 for a pro, ea100, and installation. For a E5 and ea100 should be around 11 installed. If you can find a good deal or used components subtract another 20 percent. But I agree all options are massively expensive.

Buy a lifesaver AI to use as a backup and keep everything else the same?  If my AI was connected to my AP it would be my first purchase.
