baggage door repair

Folks,

Can anyone recommend a shop in Florida, GA, or SC that can look at and hopefully repair a baggage door with a crease along the hinge line ('78 M20J).  Baggage door popped open on takeoff..... could have been worse.  Thanks for your suggestions.

where is your home base?

Can you get the door closed and secured?

Do you need to travel with it in this condition?

Are you stuck (AOG), looking for assistance?

Sorry for the lack of info. I'm requesting for a friend.  Yes, the door closes and latches and is airworthy. He will be flying to central Florida for about 10 days in January and is hoping to have it looked at/repaired while he is down.  He has a 1978 M20J.  The door half of the hinge is broken and will need to be replaced. The plane half of the hinge is intact and an A/P looked at it and thinks that part of the hinge is airworthy (hopefully precluding the necessity to pull down the interior trim and work on the fuselage).  The exterior skin of the door is creased parallel to the hinge at the point where the interior skin curves to form a 'flange'. It's looks like a good candidate for possible repair in lieu of replacement.  Thanks for any suggestions.

Check with Joey Cole at KDNN. Cole Aviation is a Georgia MSC just below Chattanooga. There may be someone nearby in FL, depe ding on where he is going.

He just recently replaced my hinge, but I wasn't sure about the crease repair.

It seems like a used door may be a better deal. Either way he has some paint work to do.

Just went through a repair from the door blowing open on departure so might have some useful info. The hinge on the door side was ripped but intact on the airframe side so only the door hinge needed replacement . Speaking with Robert the service manager at Lake Areo who is expert with Mooney service. I asked him about using a used door as there were some in the hangar Im in and he said that these doors are really made to fit each airframe and would take more work to get one lined up than to repair the original.  Plus to buy a new one is 3600 dollars and a used one would not be a cheap replacement.  It took only a few days to re skin the door replace the hinge and do a base coat of white. I will need to shoot the accent color. The new door looks great and cost was 1100 dollars or 1.1AMU's so not bad as airframe repairs are seldom inexpensive. Good luck and welcome to Mooney space.
