Emmet Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Hi, unfortunately my oxygen bottle has passed by it's service life of 24 years. Does anybody have experiences/prices/sources for a new bottle (I only found aviationoxygen) ? Is there a possibilty to install a composite or aluminum bottle ? Thanks, Emmet Quote
Skywarrior Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Precise Flight sells installed and portable O2 bottles. Check their web site. Their newest one is composite. http://preciseflight.com/products/oxygen/fixed Chuck M. Quote

kortopates Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Mountain High shows a 115 cuf kevlar bottle for $1500. Their pro is they are lightest with the con being they have a more limited 15 yr life. see http://www.mhoxygen.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=54&Itemid=49 Several sources out there and you'll want to check with the shop doing the work for their suggestions Quote
Emmet Posted January 20, 2011 Author Report Posted January 20, 2011 I already checked them - unfortunetly they are not certified for a replacement ... Quote
kortopates Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Not sure I understand, even aviatoinoxygen says they have pricing for PMA or OEM equip on their kevlar cylinders as does aerox. I use the 115 cuf kevlar in mine which was replaced 7 yrs ago. Mine is an aerox cylinder (see http://www.aerox.com/CompositeCylinders.htm ) . You might be best checking with your nearest MSC for their source(s). Quote
danb35 Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 See AC 43.13-2B, Chapter 6, particularly paragraph 607. This covers requirements for installation of O2 systems, and specifies that regular commercial oxygen cylinders are acceptable for installation in aircraft if they carry the appropriate ICC markings. Oxygen cylinders are common, and there's nothing special about the ones that get installed in airplanes. Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 In September 2009, I was in the same situation; out of service life cylinder. I bought mine (Steel) from Aerox (Aviation Oxygen Systems, Inc. 207-637-2331). Their price at the time was $1190, but they gave me a 20% discount, when I mentioned that Dr. Bob Actel referred me. You can switch to a Kevlar tank, but it has a shorter life, and it is lighter. With the weight and balance of a K model, removing weight from that far back may create some problems. Don Quote
