With that many cylinders, I wonder if you would even notice if one of them ate a valve, or went cold.

Can you imagine what the JPI screen would look like for this? Much less how many little round dials there would have been then . . . Don't think you'd be able to make heads or tails out if either readout set if flying single pilot IFR!  :huh:

Dad flew the KC-97 Stratotanker with P&W 28 cyl, 3500 hp engines and turbojets on the wing tips.
They carried a 55 gallon drum of oil. If an engine started taking oil, they would shut it down instead of using up their whole barrel.
