Hello all,

Last week I spoke with the organizer of the Vidalia Onion Festival Airshow April 30 - May 1 (http://www.vidaliaonionfestival.com/airshow-info) and she said she would be delighted to have the Mooney Ambassadors provide a static display...especially when she learned there was no cost! (She mentioned budget cuts, and I've noticed that the Blue Angels are no longer scheduled...bummer).

So I've submitted this to the Ambassador webpage and encourage anyone in the area to participate. I don't have all the logistics worked out but as we get closer we'll do that.  We have a lot of Mooney drivers here in the Southeast and Florida and this event is accessible for everyone, so I look forward to seeing how many we can turn out!

Cheers,

Jeff

I will get the event up on the website and out to MAPA tomorrow.  [Today is Gabriel's birthday party!]  What fun.  We also have a list of events in Canada that I will be getting up.

Let's get out there and fly those Mooneys, support MAC, and promote GA!

Two more events followed, and we ae excited to have the opportunity to present our fourth event June, 2011. The name of the event was changed to reflect the fact that this is a community event, and we could not have made it to this point without the help of businesses and community organizations, that have made this such a wonderful success! The Mooney Ambassadors displayed last year. We had four big Mooneys and four Mooney Mites. We camped in the campground and had a wonderful time.

Saturday is the big day, and we expect upwards of 11,000 visitors.

And by the way, thanks to everyone here and in the SE Mooney mailing list for the very positive feedback on the Vidalia Air Show. We should really make an impression! I'll post more logistics as we get closer.

Hello Everyone,

I have more information on the Mooney Ambassador Weekend at the Vidalia Onion Festival at the end of April so please read if you are planning/hoping to attend. I apologize for the length of the post but there's much to cover.

The Air Show event will be held both days, Sat April 30 and Sun May 1.  The gates open each day at 9am, and the air show itself will start about 11:30 and end between 3:30 and 4:00.  We will have a space set up at one end of the Static Display area and the organizer is looking forward to our participation.

First issue: my general expectation was that most folks wouldn't want to spend the whole weekend hanging out at an airport in Vidalia, GA.  Anybody who wants to, hold that thought until we get to the second issue. But for people who only want to come in for one day, there will be slightly more space available on Sunday than Saturday, due to some space on the field being occupied for the Kellie Pickler concert that evening.

For the day trippers, please let me know which of the two days you would prefer to attend, and if you really don't care, it would be better to choose Sunday.  Either day, plan to be on the ground by 9:00 so there isn't too much movement in the static area where people will be walking around. (I don't want to discourage Saturday because there WILL be space, but maybe for only 10-15 planes, whereas Sunday is about as many as we want.)

Second issue: anyone who DOES want to spend the night and enjoy more of the Festival will find it difficult to get a room if you call now. This is because the organizer has all the local rooms reserved in her name. She is holding one for me, and I can probably get a few more, so if you do want to spend the night and be there for both days please let me know ASAP so I can forward that along and try to get you some space.

So again, please let me know either A) which day you plan to attend, or B) you want to attend both days and are requesting a hotel room. I'll do the best I can to accommodate all requests.  You can send me a PM here, or go the Facebook page and RSVP with a note as to which day you prefer.  Here's the link again:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=122197724519444

Many thanks, and I'll send more out now as we get closer to the event.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hi all,

We're three weeks away from the Vidalia Onion Festival and Mooney Ambassador Extravaganza. Just wanted to get this back up to the top of your attention for people interested in attending, and also to let you know that the show organizer has told me that now there is plenty of space for as many people that want to attend either (or both) days. No more "slightly less space on Saturday" advisory, so if that's the day you prefer, or that looks better for weather, then come on down.

One other thing...if you're interested in a Mooney Ambassadors T-shirt please PM me here, or reply directly to the note I'm going to send to the Southeast Mooney mailing list. If I get enough interest and commitment I'll have Jolie send me a supply that you can pick up at the show.

Cheers!

We're less than two weeks out now for the Mooney Ambassador event at the Vidalia Onion Festival Airshow. As a reminder, the event is Saturday April 30 and Sunday May 1, 2011, at the Vidalia Airport (KVDI).  And if you hadn't seen my latest notices, they have re-engineered the spacing on the field, so there is now plenty of space available on either day so we no longer need to encourage a Sunday participation. Please come whichever day works best for you.

A few logistics:

You need to arrive before 10:30 in the morning, hopefully earlier than that as the gates will open for the public by 9am.  When you arrive, you will be directed to the Mooney Ambassador parking area by EAA officials, so when you call in just say that is your intended parking space so they know how to steer you.

The airshow will begin at 11:30 and should be over by 3:45 both days, so you can plan for your departure.

And PLEASE send me a PM ASAP to let me know if you're interested in a Mooney Ambassador T-Shirt. I'm going to have a few of them on-hand ($20) but I don't want to have Jolie ship too many of them. I figure as far as T-shirts go, everyone can wear and XL so that's what I'll have.

Thanks...looking forward to a great event.

Hello Everyone,

A line of storms moves through mid-week, but the weekend is shaping up to look nice for the Vidalia Onion Festival Airshow and Mooney Ambassador event. I look forward to seeing everyone there. Just a few reminders:

1) Pick whichever day, Saturday or Sunday, works for you. No space restrictions either day. (There is a NOTAM TFR in effect so don't forget to read that.)
2) Please plan to be on the ground no later than 10:30, but earlier is better. The gates open to the public at 9am.
3) When you call in arrival, just mention that you're with the Mooney Ambassadors and you should be directed to the appropriate parking.
4) Air show should be over by 3:45 both days, so you can plan your departure.

I didn't get many advance orders for T-shirts but I had Jolie ship me some anyway, so for those who didn't ask for one specifically, they'll be allocated on a FIFO basis (and who says I would never use my college accounting class!).

See you soon!

Get a shirt an wear it proudly!  Folks at home and around your airport will ask you what the heck does "What Have You Done for G.A. Lately" mean.

This will be a great opportunity to tell them all about the positive aspects of general aviation, what it does for their community and what you are doing to help promote it.

Have a great time at Vidalia everyone! Cool

I'd really like to be there, but my bird will be in Texas getting "spiffied" up. Have a great time, and take pictures!

Jeff,

Just checking my math here.  The TFR is in effect from 1600 to 2000 UTC, which is noon to 1600 EDT.  Correct?  Also, VDI is a non-towered airport and I don't see any NOTAMs indicating that a temporary tower will be in place.  Are you telling us to identify ourselves as Mooney Ambassador NXXXXX when annoucing our arrival and making position reports on the unicom frequency?  Finally, when are you planning to arrive?  I'm shooting for Saturday as early as possible, which will probably be 0830 or so.

Thanks!  I'm looking forward to it very much, and it looks like the weather will be good.

Many thanks to those who were able to come down to Vidalia. I know we lost a few folks who were doing relief duty from the tornados, which is clearly important work. And we had some logistics issues with the air show that didn't let everyone park all together. But I got to meet all the Mooney owners who did come in for the show, and it was a beautiful weekend to fly in the Southeast. So all in all, a fun time.

And to answer a question a few folks have asked (privately!), yes, there is an Onion Queen and she came by at the end of the day on Sunday, so I took the chance to have my photo with royalty!

Cheers,

Jeff
