Rookie Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 Made a 3 hour flight up to Hollister Mo. on Friday. Plenty flooding on the Mississippi River going up. Didn't take to many photos but here are a few Mooney's on the ramp. Hope they are Mooney Spacers! 5 Quote

It was the first long cross country for my better half. She didn't like the bumps going over the mountains. Great trip, and I love the pictures. My wife loves flying but is not a fan of the bumps. She hasn't flown with me in anything that I would call more than light chop yet, but she is getting more comfortable with it the more she flies with me. I don't think she will ever get to the point that she wouldn't be bothered by moderate chop, but she is getting closer to being okay with the light stuff. 3 Quote

Going over the mountains I was pulled back to maneuvering speed it was pretty bumpy. It got my attention a few times as well. She has been a trooper and is very pro airplane travel time vs car travel time. So it's win win:)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 (edited) I like the bumps... you now know that there is something really strong holding you up in the air. In smooth air, you can get the feeling that the plane is just going to fall apart under the slightest amount of stress. Big bumps take the fear of the plane falling apart out of the question.... Bumps and IMC and iPads flying around the cabin... completely different story for the passengers...? They start wondering if Plan A was really well thought out to begin with... Steve W Posted May 23, 2017 Report Posted May 23, 2017 Made the most boring flight from KSQL to KCVO yesterday to finally get the plane home. Now I need an oil change, and to check the vacuum system as it seemed a bit low, and I think all the CHT/EGT probes need to be checked, etc etc. 7 Quote

Culver LFA Posted May 27, 2017 Report Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) Here is a picture from Guntersville AL (8A1) and was from a flight last Friday, when I see an airport that is being completely renovated I try to get a picture of the original FBO (if it's still there). I wish I had pictures of the pattern and approach, it is one of the most beautiful airports I've flown into with foothills and water all around. Edited May 27, 2017 by Culver LFA added airport identifier 4 Quote
Bob_Belville Posted May 27, 2017 Report Posted May 27, 2017 No pictures to post, it's been a really slow Spring flying but plans are to go places this Summer. But I am meeting Lee Fox @ KHKY later this morning. N201DF has been imprisoned @ KGGG for months and is headed home today. I'm anxious to see and hear about the rumored new bling. 1 Quote

bonal Posted May 30, 2017 Author Report Posted May 30, 2017 Trip down to LVK to visit family and there was a Memorial Day event with a few ww2 birds on display as we were on final the b17 was entering the downwind. My brother went to the scene the day before and was given some very special treatment by the crew of the B24 since he brought our moms first husbands air medals (he was killed in a 24 on the Ploesti raid. So was a very special day for my Bro. On the trip back I was happily cruising along 2450 20 showing 120 knots at 6500 when all of a sudden a King Air came out from under our right wing about 100feet down and 100 feet out. Man he made us look like we were standing still. As usual Snoopy performed well for a safe trip sure is nice seeing 160mph ground speed over all the Bay Area traffic. 6 Quote

gsengle Posted May 30, 2017 Report Posted May 30, 2017 I had an excellent first international trip last week. Thanks Doc for the invite but the lakefront was too inviting. Five legs, all IFR plenty of IMC, every kind of approach, and Customs and Ameriflight at KROC are very good... Amused at how Canada upon arrival over the phone is basically, here is your confirmation number, welcome to Canada, click. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 5 Quote

steingar Posted May 30, 2017 Report Posted May 30, 2017 After finally requiring my own steed I went out with a CFI last Friday. Had a bouncy landing at PCW, got lunch at the diner. We then flew down to a good landing at MFD, got my medical while we were there. Good for two more year, hooray! Then flew up to 3W2. I wanted to try that with a CFI before doing it on my own, I hit the Islands just about every year. I agreed that if he said to go around I'd put the petal to the metal, but when he did say to go around I was just entering my flair and didn't like the idea of pouring on the coals. Landing was just fine too. Did some more landings on Memorial Day which all worked out quite well. They were all short, but the winds screaming out of the West probably helped that. 1 Quote
Stetson20 Posted June 1, 2017 Report Posted June 1, 2017 Flew down to KMGC with a plan to take my wife to a nice prime rib dinner at William B's steakhouse at the Blue Chip Casino. Fantastic prime rib the last time we came here. Alas, B's is closed on Wednesday! Curses! We had to settle on the Options Buffet. A 2.5 hour drive reduced to just over 1.0 in the Mooney. CAVU at destination. Tomorrow morning we fly home. I'll try to remember to take some pics! 6 Quote
