image.jpegThe switch under the coupler selector, does anyone know what it is for? Its on a plane I'm looking to buy and the owner doesn't know what it does. When we took the plane up it didn't seem to do anything with the ap on or off.

As Andy said,

My 90s Mooney has a few indicators, but not enough for all the radios.

Nav1, nav2, GPS, ADF (NAV radios)

Nav1 and the GPS share the HSI. There is a complex switch on the panel that handles which source is going to supply signals to the HSI. The HSI and AI automatically supplies the AP.

The inherent danger with this is in IMC. Navigating using the non-WAAS GPS and switching to the ILS for the approach.

Forgetting to change the source switch and following an inop HSI could be disastrous.

The switch may also have an indicator light.  A blue light comes on when my GPS is the active NAV radio... If the light is off, Nav1 is active or the bulb is dead...

PP knowledge, not a CFI.

Best regards,

It's the "wing removal switch". Wing one, two or lock.

It's primarily used to remove the wing for resealing.
