Parker_Woodruff Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 It ain't just liability. It's the fact that whoever you work for matches your 7.34% FICA contribution. They also pay state unemployment, workman's comp, and have crazy compliance laws. Guess what? If you're self employed, you pay FICA TWICE. I'm convinced that politicians feel they can create a nation immune to bad things happening if they can write enough laws. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Yes, understand/agree...and why my comments on government and "maker's of laws=politicians/lawyers" was in the equation. Quote

jax88 Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Politics have become too lucrative to be honest. Quote
Piloto Posted November 22, 2010 Report Posted November 22, 2010 Unlike other markets GA is a very limited one. Take the market of baby diapers as an example of a non limited market. There is a new customer born every day and it is a sure thing the customer will buy more than one for several years. Or the market of funeral caskets. There is a new customer every day. No need for liability or new product development. If a customer complains it is a true miracle. But things may not be going that well for funeral homes. I got a call today from RIP funeral home offering free cremation for this week only, but you have to rent their casket ($1500). Now why a casket rental for two days has to be more than a 2/2 apartment. That's why I declined the offer. José Quote
Mooney_Allegro Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 I visited Mooney today Nov 23, since my Mooney is there for an annual inspection till December 10th. Apparently December 18th is the shutdown date for the service center, and they can't finish some of the planes that are there now, so they will have to be sent someplace else. They can't even complete some of the items on my descrepancy list due to the timing of the shutdown. Bill Wheat has already already been laid off. Brian Kendrick will be gone on the 10th, as well is Paul Kehner and others. I was told that Stacy Ellis will stay. They won't be making parts, so once their inventory is gone, that's it, no more parts from Mooney. So sad. Quote
DaV8or Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Time for Mooney enthusiasts and owners to pool their money and buy Mooney. Otherwise it's going to be all about parts planes. Quote
flight2000 Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 IF (and that's a big IF), Mooney does cease to exist, I believe other manufacturers will jump at the chance to get the certification required to produce PMA parts. Piper/Commander/Grumman/et all owners haven't had an issue for the most part getting what they need for their no longer produced aircraft. I don't think my pennies will stretch that far. Brian Quote
fantom Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Thanks for the on-site, first hand report, David. Not good news at all, and while very disappointing it's not surprising. Quote
Lood Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Now, mark my words and see used Mooneys pop up for sale all over the place. I'm sure there's a few bargains coming up so be ready. If Comaches are still flying along very happily today, we've still got way to go on the Mooneys. Quote
74657 Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 There already are a ton of Mooneys for sale all over the place....... I don't think people are going to sell their planes because the manufacturer went out of business. If that is the reason an owner sells his/her plane they probably shouldn't be flying in the first place and DEFINATELY not flying a Mooney. Quote
