Hello,

I might be interested in bying a lot to build a hanger home at Massey air ranch near Orlando.

anyone know this airport? The fact that it is a municipal airport, should I be worry with a potential closedown?

also, where should I start to get what I should know before making an offer in a state I don't know?

Thank You

I grew up down the road from SpuceCreekFly in. It's a very nice gated community and nice little airport. Lots of old war birds are flying  constantly. Home prices to fit every budget. Nice golf course out there too. That's where I'd live if I could move back to Daytona Beach area.

A lot of training traffic there. A great avionics guy there. Just a few miles away is an outstanding fly in community, Spruce Creek.

I would start with a visit, talk to the current owners.

There are lots of fly-in communities in TX!  Check out http://livingwithyourplane.com/

I've been in a fly-in community since 1997.  It's been great.  However, not all fly-in communities are wonderful, or necessarily match who you are.  Look before you leap!  You're buying a place to live first; a place to fly second.  Both aspects are important.

Before you go out and explore, try to get a copy of the covenants/restrictions.  They are VERY important and need to match your life style.  Another thing to research is so basic, many people miss it:  who owns the runway!

You hit on two excellent points:  Covenants/restrictions and who owns the runway.   I was ready to sign up for one place before I read the covenants.  --It didn't allow for non-owner occupancy.  So, I couldn't rent the house out if I left the area for a few years.

Gus should know.  His neighbors have gotten upset with him letting his goats and chickens run around the back yard and runway.  His nude sunbathing has ruffled some feathers, too.

Well...okay, I understand about the goats and chickens, but there was nothing at all in the covenants about nude sunbathing!  -_-

What's got me really upset is they're trying to classify me as an old goat and therefore banned from the community!

If a group wanted to get together and buy this ,, count me in,.

The house is not so great, but sure is a nice piece of property. Us Mooney guys would need to raise funds for some asphalt on that runway though.

In the event of a water landing your aircraft can be used as a personal flotation device

Oh dear, that ruined someone's day!  I love all the golf carts in the distance that drove out to take a look.

That's actually the golf course. The course is right off the departure end or approach end, depending on which runway in use.
