Since this is a permanent install, is it legal in certificated airplanes? Love this! If I can clear up some panel space, is looks like a good option!

As long as the ipad or whatever isn't permanently installed, it's allowed, as far as I understand...  There are some Artificial Horizons that work on that principle as well.

There are two different items being installed here and actually only the Guardian docking mount is really being installed. So the mount installation is the only item needing approval. That's my take anyway.

Following Paul's logic.  If the iPad needed to be uninstalled (separated from ship's power) have a way to do that.

If you go forth with this idea... Don't forget pictures.

I'd like to see my WingX/weather/traffic move to the instrument panel in this fashion.

Best regards,

There's an Advisory Circular that deals with the mounting (can't remeber the #) Several years ago during my Instrument Ck ride, the DPE had me remove the iPad from the yoke mount so it would be legal. Basically it said it had to signed off by an Avionics shop regardless of mount and power supply.

Just like FSDOs, I think DPEs have their own set of interpretations. For part 91, the regs are a lot less restrictive than for the paid for hire ops.

As in life, it all depends who you get.

A friend of mine was turned down by an FAA examiner, in South Carolina, at her oral, because of her broken English as she was trying for an advanced helicopter rating.

At 5:00am the next day she caught a flight from Charlotte to Miami. That morning she was at one of the largest flight schools in the country. That afternoon she took her oral

and check ride with another FAA examiner and passed easily.

As stated above, it all depends who you get.
