DaV8or Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Thinking of making this cup holder mod for my F. It would be vacuum formed Royalite type plastic with similar grain and incorporates a side pocket for things like check lists or a POH. Below is a before photo and a crude photoshop of what it would look like. Only would work for guys with electric gear and would have to be adjusted for J and K types. Any thoughts or ideas on it? Anybody want one?
Carl S Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 Looks nice but it would not work for me. I have a fuel selector and gear indicator down there. I think I do anyway. I have not really been in my J for 3 weeks now - waiting for the avionics replacements to be done.

rbridges Posted October 30, 2010 Report Posted October 30, 2010 a cup holder would be nice, but just like you said--it won't work for johnson bars.
DaV8or Posted November 1, 2010 Author Report Posted November 1, 2010 Anybody else? Seems not much interest in cupholders amongst the electric gear folks.
OR75 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 I have seen a lot of discussion on cup holders and wondering what I am missing. What does a cup holder brings as far as "cockpit management" goes ?. Are you realling looking at having a cup of coffee or glass of water there ?Or what am I missing ?
thinwing Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 nice vacumnforming....the newer mooneys come with cupholders that are folding so that you dont swipe them off with your feet...they are standard blackplastic about 4 inches square and availible at most r/v shops...and we do use them for small water bottles as O2 use is drying...kpc

OR75 Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 ok thanks. that works. When I take water, it is usually in a (capped) bottle rather than a cup.
carusoam Posted November 1, 2010 Report Posted November 1, 2010 Dave, I like the idea. With the R, there is an fresh air vent out the bottom, overall my dimensions are probably different than the J.... -a-

fantom Posted November 2, 2010 Report Posted November 2, 2010 Insulated for water, drinks, food, and eventually bottled urine ;-) $9.95 and lots of color choices!
rbridges Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 not to take away from the OPs idea, but I saw a suction cup bottle holder in Sporty's. That would work well for water bottles. Maybe not so great for relief tubes, though.
Amelia Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Relief tube? Ick. I assume our coast-to-coast Mooney pilot is 'going' alone on his trip? Or need he have any thought for his passengers? I find my pax and I are tired of sitting in one place after four hours or so, and we're all glad to stop and stretch. I had an inexpensive folding plastic cupholder folded up out of the way. I could reach the fuel selector underneath when it was in use. It broke when some mechanic wasn't paying attention, so, slow learner that I am, I'll get another just like it, because it was just right. There's only room for one, though.

jasong Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 If you can add in some space to hold charts, plates, and pencils I'd be in.
DaV8or Posted November 3, 2010 Author Report Posted November 3, 2010 Quote: Hank Dave-- This would be an exact cover-up for my mechanical gear indicator, laying in the floor all backlit at night. That is also where my Approach Plates for my destination usually lie, turned sideways to fit with the seats forward. [i fly in the middle-of-three detents.]
