Tony Armour Posted October 27, 2015 Report Posted October 27, 2015 Two Mooney's so far. I'm thinking about it. I'll be a first timer and just out to learn. Anyone else interested ? http://sportairrace.org/sarl/node/1955 Course: http://sportairrace.org/sarl/node/2202 1 Quote
Jeff_S Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 It's a lot of fun...both other Mooneys (myself and one other) are participants here on Mooneyspace. It will be only my second race so I'm still just figuring out how hard to push the engine, but it's a rush when you're speeding along at 1000' AGL and the airspeed tape is in the yellow and the wind is rushing by the cockpit. Tony, hope to see you there! Quote
kris_adams Posted October 28, 2015 Report Posted October 28, 2015 Are these normally 100 mile courses? I've never been but it sounds like fun. Definitely let us know how it goes. I can't make this one but maybe the next. Quote

Jeff_S Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 OK, Tony............................... put up or SHUT UP :-) I don't see you on the list yet Tony! C'mon, man...I even convinced my mentor and buddy to enter his 172 in the race. He joked that he might bring a sandwich to eat along the way, but he and Richard will be battling it out in the FAC5FX category. I just hope the weather cooperates. It's looking like a real crappy week down here, all the way through the weekend. We shall see. Quote
Tony Armour Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 What are you seeing on the weather Jeff ? I'm not seeing good things. Quote

Jeff_S Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 What are you seeing on the weather Jeff ? I'm not seeing good things. Hi Tony. Yes, the weather is looking downright crappy. I have been emailing Richard to get his take on things, and I know since this is really the last weekend we can run it he wants to go if possible. But given that quite a few folks have to come in from farther distances on Friday, and most going right through all that same weather, I'm guessing it's less than 50-50 that we'll get it in. But who knows...the weather gods have been known to be fickle. Also, Tony, as of right now I don't see you on the participant list so let me know if you're not getting Richard's email comms. He will have the final say on things. Quote
Jeff_S Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Hi Folks. I just got an email that the Greenwood race is canceled for the year due to the lousy weather. I can't say I'm surprised. It was always going to be dicey. But Tony, if we get a good day we can always meet at Dalton and map out a course ourselves and have some fun practicing! I'm up for it any time, just let me know. Tony Armour Posted November 5, 2015 Author Report Posted November 5, 2015 (edited) Well dar n the weather. Maybe we could do something like that some time. Maybe get a few more folks an have lunch too. High school football games are already moving from Friday night to tonight up here. Supposed to be pretty bad, and our Friday night weather will probably be in Greenwood Saturday morning. What airport do you fly out of Jeff ? Edited November 5, 2015 by Tony Armour Quote
Jeff_S Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 I'm at PDK, a hop skip and a jump away from Dalton. With Joey Cole up there now, my plane seems to know the way all by itself! Quote
DrBill Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 guys... put me on the practice list too.. My plane is currently waiting for engine O/H. Annual found bad cam lobe so tomorrow Triad Engines will pick it up and begin work. No idea yet on how long but I expect a month or more. Bill Quote
Jeff_S Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Dr. Bill, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you teach race car driving for fun? You can teach us how to apply that to racing airplanes! Quote
Culver LFA Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Sounds like there is enough interest here alone to host a SARL race in the Atlanta area next year. Anyone want to volunteer to head this up? If not I'll consider putting it on my 'things to do' list (but it will be on the southside and we may launch from grass ) 2 Quote
