Form-a-funnel, size large. Haven't spilled a drop of oil since I started using one. I learned about these a couple years ago on MS.

Oh and the $2.00 oil bottle shut off valves with a tube will keep you from spilling when adding oil.   Well mostly. cutting the tube down 2/3s will help some

Lower cowl need not come off to change the oil on the J unless are servicing the screen.

But I have a question regarding dripless oil change.

Would it help letting air out of nose tire to lower nose which would tilt oil filter forward enabling it to actually drain? I've often thought of this but have not actually done it!

It wouldnt work on a Bravo..use a hefty heavy duty freezer bag...break filter free by rotating 1 rev...using a sharpened awl puncture filter at rounded edge so as to not go into paper, now place freezer bag so it covers lower flange of filter and than rotate oil filter by hand so puncture is at the bottom.Than puncture again ,180 at the top. This releases any suction and half of filters contents will drain back into engine.the other half will go in bag and not down the firewall. Now go have coffee and come back in 1/2 hr.Finish by unscrewing filter while contained in bag and lift entire thing away...maybe spill 1/2 teaspoon so have rag underneath

Has anyone installed an Airwolf remote mounted filter in a J? If so pictures would be appreciated!

I can't seem to find space for it.

I can't seem to find space for it.

Mounted in the wrong place, they are just as big a pain as the standard filter installation.

Didn't read the entire string so this was possibly mentioned.....

Before removing the filter...

  • Purchase a Form a Funnel......
  • Maneuver the funnel below the attachment point of the Filter and the Case
  • Use an awl to pop a hole in the Oil Filter
  • Rotate the hole to the Form a Funnel
  • Drain the Oil filter
  • Place a plastic zip-lock bag around the oil filter
  • Remove the filter
  • You WILL save a lot of clean up!!
