Wildhorsesracing Posted September 23, 2015 Report Posted September 23, 2015 The new 737 has new winglet technology that would probably be nice to have on our Mooneys... http://www.gizmag.com/boeing-737-max-final-assembly-winglet/39471/ Quote
carusoam Posted September 23, 2015 Report Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) Is it available in polished aluminum color? the purpose of the winglet is to abolish the end effects that occur on the ordinary wing. a proper winglet design would allow the Mooney wing to be shortened while maintaining the same lift qualities. a shorter wing would improve taxi issues encountered in tight spaces typical of New England winters and departure issues in Central Jersey this week? the question for the aerodynamists...how much of the end of the wing is effected? A few inches or a few feet? best regards, -a- Edited September 23, 2015 by carusoam 1 Quote
peevee Posted September 23, 2015 Report Posted September 23, 2015 Winglets have been around a long time and I can't think of a single piston GA airplane right now with them. Perhaps diminishing return s at our speeds. Quote

tony Posted September 23, 2015 Report Posted September 23, 2015 They are only helpful reducing drag on a swept wing; they add drag on a straight wing. Quote
Brandontwalker Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Hmmm... Not sure where this one came from, but let the discussion begin. Winglets on a Cherokee 180, or may be a 235... Quote
