I did the first 50 hour oil change on my 'new' 1966 M20C the other day and noticed a placard on the Kelly Aerospace starter motor. It says I should service it every 50 hours: Clean with 'oleum spirits' and lube with silicon spray. Easy enough but I'm not sure what part needs the service. Looks to me like its all bolted up tight against the engine block. I'm uneasy about removing it to service the gears. Anybody know the procudure for servicing a starter?

Probably a good idea to consider replacing it with a Skytec.  There's a number of benefits to replacing the old Bendix style starter.

Otherwise, JimR is 100% correct.  If you've got the cowling off, hit it with a shot of Tri-Flow.
