Flyindoorman Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Just purchased a 1990 Mooney Bravo and I'm looking forward to learning much more about it from these forums. I have about 1,400 hours total time with about 700 Mooney time with about 150 in C model and the remainder in a J. Have not flown much Mooney time in last 8 years. Looking forward to flying high once I'm checked out and get oxygen all set up. Quote
ZamF16 Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Welcome to the Bravo! I have an '89 Bravo--have had it for over three years now and absolutely love it. Nothing better than having that turbo to get you high and fast. My best trip was San Antonio to Montgomery, AL in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Was up at 25K' showing 215 kts true and 296 kts ground. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Just be mindful of your turbo cooling in the descent realizing she won't want to slow down. You just need to plan ahead. I am confident you will love it! Dave Quote
Danb Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Welcome great to have another Bravo owner on board..you will learn a lot about the operational views of the folks, since your Mooney proficient already try to get a good Mooney Cfi with high flying experience and acquire as much info re hypoxia due to the rash of incidents this year..Welcome and Happy Flying and thanksgiving Quote

Flyindoorman Posted November 26, 2014 Author Report Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks all. Dave I'm in San Antonio as well where are you based? The Bravo has dual 430 WASS Aspen Pro 1000 GEM engine monitor Strikefinder. Randy Quote
FlyDave Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Randy, Congratulations on buying a Bravo! I moved from a J to the Bravo in December of last year. It's a more capable airplane than I originally thought it was. I've put almost 150 hours on mine since I got it including a flight from CA to NY and back. Note that there is a forum dedicated to the Bravo on MooneySpace. But please let us know what questions you have and we'll try to answer them. Again - Congratulations! Dave Quote
LANCECASPER Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 I am in San Antonio also. I owned serial #7 TLS (later converted to a Bravo) and then serial # 209, which the books say was the first TLS to leave the factory as a Bravo. If i can be of any help please let me know. Quote
Flyindoorman Posted November 26, 2014 Author Report Posted November 26, 2014 Thanks Lancecasper I am based at 5C1. You guys ever fly out to breakfast for a meetup ? Quote
BuzzProc Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Congratulations! I am on month 3 of my 1999 Bravo I bought at All American. I previously had a K model. The difference is more than dramatic. I am still catching up to this great airplane. You will love every minute of flying it. Great Plane to fly west and get over mountains and to places you would not want to go with a J. All the best and Happy Thanks Giving Buzz Ft Huachuca AZ Quote
jfdez Posted November 28, 2014 Report Posted November 28, 2014 Sounds like we need a Texas Bravo hamburger run to 11R? I am in Dallas. Congrats on you Bravo! Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted November 28, 2014 Report Posted November 28, 2014 Welcome to the club, and congrats on the purchase Quote
fantom Posted November 28, 2014 Report Posted November 28, 2014 Sounds like we need a Texas Bravo hamburger run to 11R? I am in Dallas. Congrats on you Bravo! If you're in TX, you must mean BBQ, not burgers. Quote
Bravoman Posted November 28, 2014 Report Posted November 28, 2014 If you're in TX, you must mean BBQ, not burgers. And Brisket at that! Quote
LANCECASPER Posted November 28, 2014 Report Posted November 28, 2014 Good place to go is Llano (KAQO). Great BBQ (Coopers BBQ) and good fuel prices ($4.30) http://www.flyingmag.com/pilots-places/pilots-adventures-more/gear-taking-hill-country-spin Quote
Flyindoorman Posted November 28, 2014 Author Report Posted November 28, 2014 11R is always a great time as is Coopers. Hard 8 in Stephenville is another good stop. Quote
Flyindoorman Posted December 21, 2014 Author Report Posted December 21, 2014 Love the Bravo put about 10 hours on it so far. It has the long range tanks for 120 gallons total. Do the wing sight gauges still read correctly up to the 30 gallon point? Quote
LANCECASPER Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 Yes, from 30 gallons down they are fairly accurate. Quote
carusoam Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 On the ground... Not as accurate in the air... This should be in your POH or POH supplements... You should be able to make sure what you have reads properly. There is not that many people here with 120g tanks. The STC for the extended tanks is held by one very knowledgable guy. You may want to contact them directly if you need the paperwork. I would expect that those gauges are reading accurately for the original tanks and may have a statement like "more than" in the STC. In this case you have more fuel than you expect. A good safe, don't run out of fuel thing. But now you may have more weight that is not exactly measured. Now you can see why somebody made the paper chart for your plane. Confirm it at a few levels and thank the guy who did the work... Many of us would reproduce the experiment. It is that important to know. Some of us would pay the mechanic to do it... Half of us are in the CB club and won't buy new electronic gauges because we have the same data available to us using a chart. Some days were all CBs... Until shopping at Oshkosh, then were only partial CBs...use your FF gauge /totalizer to compare readings... Best regards, -a- I'm only a PP. I don't have extended tanks. I have been a CB since I brought my first Mooney home... Quote
