I took off yesterday into cold air and almost immediately there was a squeal coming from the lower aft corner of the entry door. While checking the lower door seal (after I landed. :-) ), I noticed something I'd never paid any attention to....a hole in the door.

Do any of you know why Mooney put this hole in the lower aft corner? Do all Moneys have a hole in the door? I apologize for the pictures being side-ways. I haven't gotten the hang of posting iPhone pictures.

Look next to your eyeball vent inlets....you'll notice a hole there as well! This is so that if any water somehow got into the door it would drain out. You don't want water to collect! At least that's my argument. I just looked and my C...1965 doesn't have them....maybe it was built a little different!

It's like a belly button. Everyone has one!

Seems like a simple memory test!

Give your best answer here... Then go look to see if you have one.

I was hoping nobody with a long body would come along...

Now I have to go look and see...

Best regards,

I have the drain who in the same location as your picture. 1975F.

So, the consensus seems to be that it is a drain hole?

Well, I'm now pretty well convinced it is actually a Mooney-secret speed mod.

Either that, or it's designed to create a low pressure area above the passenger's wallet.
