Mooneymite Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Cold Starts require more throttle pumps, 4-6 X. The first winter I had my 'C', I had a lot of trouble with cold starts. The second winter I found out two "facts": 1. It's hard to "over-prime" for a cold start. 5 throttle pumps are about right. (I don't have a primer pump like some of the older C's.) 2. It is best to wait a minute, or two after priming before cranking to allow some of that prime to vaporize. Over-priming's big danger is a "stack fire"....raw fuel burning in the exhaust pipes. If such ocurrs, KEEP CRANKING!!! and it will go out when the engine starts. If you're dealing with a weak battery and can't continue to crank, you could be in for a disaster. 1 Quote

Bob_Belville Posted November 17, 2014 Author Report Posted November 17, 2014 Which members showed up Bob? MS members? Hank, Amelia, Dave328, 7186V, gjensen... about 17 others apparently found out they need a new battery for winter flying. Did you get a deer? Quote
Hank Posted November 17, 2014 Report Posted November 17, 2014 Which members showed up Bob? Lots of us! Bob probably gave the sign in sheet to the FAAST team guy to enter our Wings credit. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted November 17, 2014 Author Report Posted November 17, 2014 Lots of us! Bob probably gave the sign in sheet to the FAAST team guy to enter our Wings credit. I typed it so it could be read and sent it to Al for credit for 19 pilots. With spouses, presenters, and some locals we fed 50 with some really good BBQ. 1 Quote

Did you get a deer? LOL! Those pesky batteries! Just curious which MooneySpace members made it there. Looks like the entire east coast was perfect weather. My brother's food supply hasn't increased... In fact, I was convinced they all went south to the Mooney Fly-in in North Carolina. I will give it another try this weekend. Quote

Bob_Belville Posted November 20, 2014 Author Report Posted November 20, 2014 The latest thinking is to do our thingy in September next year perhaps while Morganton is having its big Historic Festival http://morgantonfest.org/ orwhen the colors in the mountains are near peak. This is from Brandon NeSmith who did our session on emergency procedures: "Hopefully at the next event you can have some proficiency flying. I think it would be great to set up an emergency procedures flight event where everyone can have an opportunity to practice cranking the gear down with their plane up on Jacks, power off landings, and partial panel approach procedures. Next year I should look into doing a couple of accident case studies on decision making in regards to Mooney accidents." Watch this space. 1 Quote
