I know that over the years a number of shops have made for sale retrofit control panels for M20s that allow you to have a standard 6-pack instrument setup.

Does anyone know if any of these shops are still making these panels for sale?

I'm trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to rehab the panel in the 65 M20E, from shotgun to sixpack, or whether it would be cheaper to just obtain a store-bought replacement panel.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

best

I'm not aware of any outfit selling a "standard" replacement panel off the shelf, but perhaps someone like LASAR does that.  The technology is so cheap and available today that most shops will custom-cut whatever you wish, and it isn't terribly expensive.  Some have advertised in the MAPA Log in the past.

Shotgun? mine looks more like a drunk Irishman thowing darts way past closing time at the pub. at least everything works. Those panels on Hendrics web site look great, maybe someday but for now I must live vicariously through others.

:D

First time I got into a vintage Mooney and surveyed the instruments, I got vertigo and we hadn't even started the engine!

I know this is dorky but one day I want to design a panel and before committing to it, build the same panel in Flight Simulator or X plane and fly it for a while. I actually want to do that now when I get some time and fly IFR with PilotEdge and my own crappy panel.

Not dorky at all, quite smart in fact.

Thanks David,

I hope you don't mind..... It was your panel layout that inspired me to make mine.

It much easier to read the Insight G3 Engine monitor and Tach, Man/FP gauges too.

It took me many iterations to get panel drawings to point where I could have the part cut out.

Thanks,

James

Just did the left side of my panel a couple of months ago.

I called around and LASAR seemed to be the best all around.  I did the owner produced 9 hole panel.  Or I should say Lance's Aircraft Mx in VNY did it...

It comes bare aluminum and you must paint it and also make some other small holes,,,but the big part is done for you....

Lasar wanted 50 hours of labor to install but my guy did it in less then half that time.

See enclosed before and after

Airplanepanels.com's instrument panels come powder coated and laser engraved with Lacquer filled writing ....$800 (both sides... and, yes, he's a Mooney guy too;-)
