urbanti Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 I know that over the years a number of shops have made for sale retrofit control panels for M20s that allow you to have a standard 6-pack instrument setup. Does anyone know if any of these shops are still making these panels for sale? I'm trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to rehab the panel in the 65 M20E, from shotgun to sixpack, or whether it would be cheaper to just obtain a store-bought replacement panel. Thanks in advance for any advice. best Tim Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 I'm not aware of any outfit selling a "standard" replacement panel off the shelf, but perhaps someone like LASAR does that. The technology is so cheap and available today that most shops will custom-cut whatever you wish, and it isn't terribly expensive. Some have advertised in the MAPA Log in the past. Quote
carusoam Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Did you mean instrument panel? http://www.hendricksmfg.com/panels.html?Iit=4&Ict=2 He is a Mooney guy as well... Best regards, -a- Quote
urbanti Posted August 27, 2014 Author Report Posted August 27, 2014 yes, thx, those are very handsome panels. Tim Quote
cliffy Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 You can design your own panel with XPanel and they will sell you the data to have one cut on a CnC machine. http://www.xpanelsoftware.com/ Quote
Seth Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 http://www.lasar.com/ Call Lasar - I think they have a prefabricated replacement panel for the vintage birds but I don't see it on the website. -Seth Quote
bonal Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Shotgun? mine looks more like a drunk Irishman thowing darts way past closing time at the pub. at least everything works. Those panels on Hendrics web site look great, maybe someday but for now I must live vicariously through others. 1 Quote

First time I got into a vintage Mooney and surveyed the instruments, I got vertigo and we hadn't even started the engine! 1 Quote

ryoder Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 I know this is dorky but one day I want to design a panel and before committing to it, build the same panel in Flight Simulator or X plane and fly it for a while. I actually want to do that now when I get some time and fly IFR with PilotEdge and my own crappy panel. Quote

canuckpilot Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 The previous owner updated the panel on my E model with Lasar's help. 1 Quote
Sabremech Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Hi Jamesm, That right side panel looks great. Almost identical to mine!! David Quote
jamesm Posted August 29, 2014 Report Posted August 29, 2014 Thanks David, I hope you don't mind..... It was your panel layout that inspired me to make mine. It much easier to read the Insight G3 Engine monitor and Tach, Man/FP gauges too. It took me many iterations to get panel drawings to point where I could have the part cut out. Thanks, James 1 Quote
Sabremech Posted August 30, 2014 Report Posted August 30, 2014 Hi James, Your's is way better than mine. Wish I had done the full lower section like you did. Looks great! David Quote
ronmacewen Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 I put LASAR left and right panels in my M20D. Here is pic attached. Great panels. RonM Quote
ryoder Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 I spoke with the guy behind airplanepanels.com this weekend. It was a pleasant conversation and I learned some things. Give him a call. Quote

Jim Peace Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 Just did the left side of my panel a couple of months ago. I called around and LASAR seemed to be the best all around. I did the owner produced 9 hole panel. Or I should say Lance's Aircraft Mx in VNY did it... It comes bare aluminum and you must paint it and also make some other small holes,,,but the big part is done for you.... Lasar wanted 50 hours of labor to install but my guy did it in less then half that time. See enclosed before and after Quote
