While going through our annual on our 231 the decision has been made to replace the engine mounts. I find a TREMENDOUS price difference between these two vendors. Does anyone have any reason why I should pay 3 times the price for a Lord Mount versus Barry.

Thank you in advance,

Not on a Mooney! Berry's will be fine. Some of the Lord mounts are better for aerobatic installs, but Berry makes good stuff as well. If Lord's are really 3x more I'd get the berry mounts!

they are made from different material so depending on their application the useful life will vary between the two brands, the barry mounts tend to be harder then the lord mounts. for lycoming mounted engines I always go with the lord mounts (they seem to hold up better), on cradle mount continental's both seem to work equally as well. but as with a lot of topics this is more a matter of opinion.

We went with Lords on my E within the last year when we had the engine off on the recommendation of everyone we asked. My old Barrys were badly worn. But the price difference was not 3:1 which seems to be the difference for your K at Aircraft Spruce. Have you checked with other distributors? Sky Geek is a little lower than AS on the J9613-75 if that's what you need.

I installed the Barry mounts. On the 201 it's two rubber cups with a metal spacer sleeve between them that the bolt goes through. Large washers go on the outside of the cups. Does anyone know what's inside the Lord mounts?

lord has a hard rubber block with a metal sleeve thru it the two outer rubber cups and the washers. both mounts are pretty much designed the same

How easy / difficult is it to change the 4 mounts ? I would not mind changing them on my J to get rid of the sag of for possibly a smoother ride.

With a cherry picker and a guy who knows what he's doing to help it's a 2-3 hour job plus 1 hour of beer drinking. Nice afternoon project.

Without someone who has done it before to help, you could very easily damage something important ($$$).

All right ....

Option 1 is a nice afternoon job including happy hour after

Option 2 is a PITA job with what sounds like two strong guys wrestling with crow bars.

How can I get option 1 ? Do any hoses need to come off ? Accessories need to come off ?

Okay, when I say "nice afternoon project" I admit there will be some cussing involved. But any afternoon spent with your Mooney is nice, right?

2 hours if the stars are in alignment and everything goes well, 3 - 4 if it doesn't.

You could probably do the job without disconnecting anything, but I'm not sure I would do that unless Paul Loewen from LASAR was assisting.

Disconnect the easy stuff like p-leads, engine cables, vacuum hose and make sure there is enough slack in wiring harnesses and hoses to move the engine 1-2 inches.

Accessories don't have to come off but it sure is easy to bang the vacuum pump on the engine mount. That's where it's helpful to have a guy who has done it recently assist.

And I don't mean to disrespect anyone when I singled out Paul Loewen- I wish I had half the knowledge of Don Maxwell, Russell Stallings, Ronnie (Dugosh)' or Jerry Manthey, to name a few.
