201er Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 My parrot teaches you how to fly the New York City Hudson River SFRA exclusion zone at the lower local altitude, the mid-altitude transient route, and in the upper Skyline route in class Bravo airspace. I recommend clicking the CC button in the lower right corner to enable the captions because the audio is a bit scratchy. Enjoy. 3 Quote
tony Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 I enjoyed that very much. It just doesn't feel right with those towers there...... Quote
yvesg Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Very informative Mike. Thanks. You might want to do something to help with the audio. Looks like you have an impedance / level mismatch between the intercom output and the recording device. Regards, Yves Quote
carusoam Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Wow! That wins an award for best prepared private pilot in busy air space! Nicely done Mike, -a- Quote
Marauder Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Nice video Mike. What radio did they have trouble hearing you on? Let me guess, your Garmin? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
PTK Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Nice review of the Hudson River corridor. I've flown it a few times. Some tight airspace restrictions with lots of traffic. A good idea is to always monitor self announce VFR freq. even when flying the Bravo. If you must ditch stay close to the banks and remember the Hudson does have current activity! Quote
aviatoreb Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 Great video. I flew the Hudson once with my primary CFI about 7 years ago in a 172. We briefed with a local CFI at White Plains before we went since my CFI or I were not local to the procedures. Well worth it and I got some great pics over Miss Liberty. Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Mikel Great video! I was based out of Caldwell of reveal years until 2008. Congratulations Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Quote
fantom Posted July 7, 2014 Report Posted July 7, 2014 Very well produced, and a fine service for other pilots, Mike. Can your parrot say anything other than 'traffic'? Quote

flyboy0681 Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Nice to know the feds kept the "Hudson Tour" in operation after all of the restrictions that came in the aftermath of 9/11. Quote
carusoam Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 There are always five helicopters in sight along the Hudson.... I was in Hoboken, comparing Mikes video to real life of an ordinary Sunday . Non-stop helicopter traffic, up and down and across the river... I was hoping to see a Mooney or two. The airplanes are quiet compared to some of the boats going by.... As for the corridor... It needs to stay open for VFR traffic to pass through three very large airports in a timely and safe manner... New England on one side and the rest of the East Coast on the other... Come fly the corridor, -a- Quote
neilpilot Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 Flew the Hudson for the first time on Monday 7/7. Departed KCDW, entered at Alpine and flew the Skyline route south. After VZ did a 180 and flew the East River transition, left turn at 59th st and over Central Park and then back to Alpine over the Hudson. I has no desire to fly below the Bravo and without ATC advisories. All went as planned, but I still wish I had seen this video before my flight! Quote
triple8s Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 I have been wondering this for a while and I must ask.........do you, 201er, have a CO detector in your plane or are you subjecting that innocent bird to cruel and in humane treatment using the innocent as your CO detector? Should PETA be notified? Quote

Should PETA be notified? I have met several of Mike's "birds" over the past couple of years. He treats them well. So well in fact, this is probably the reason we see him in the plane with them instead of a girlfriend. Sorry Mike, that one was left on my doorstep. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
