Mooney "Ad" on Flying

Check out the video of an E on Flying's website:

<see correct link in Post #4>

They talk about the lighter, faster Mooney beating the camera plane into the air, but I think the E pilot had an unusually long ground roll, trying to match slowness with the film crew, until he just couldn't stand it any more.  :P

A36 has an IO-520 of 285HP. A good friend of mine, CLH, has a 64 M20E with. 3-blade prop and it absolutely stomps the living hell out of my M20J on takeoff and climb, and matches it for cruise speed. Keeping that thing out of the 200 MPH IAS redline is a challenge. The A36s I have flown are more sedate on runway performance due to lower power/weight but get with the program in cruise. In cruise the A36 will do 165kt after level off and you look back to see 4 seats and all the other stuff. It's really the ultimate single piston airplane if you ignore the 17 GPH fuel flow. If you stick a Tornado Alley turbo on the thing, screw fuel flow. It's simply the ultimate piston single. 200 knots on 17 GPH and a 1400 LB useful load. Like a Rocket with two extra seats you can use.

I've never "smoked" anyone with my 63 M20E. It never even occurred to me that I could. It just seems routine to me we don't waste much time on the runway and that once off, we CLIMB! One ground worker did comment that compared to the other plane that had just taken off my plane had really TAKEN OFF!! Wow. Good clean fun.

Ford VS Chevy, i always find it interresting the competitive nature we have. I LOVE THEM ALL. airplanes are just cool! Last time we flew to Vegas Joshua control had a Bo on our same heading about 5 miles back. they had me climb 500 for the overtake but he never caught up. i think i have watched that video several times already. think i'll watch it again.  CANT WAIT TO FLY.

short of some type of experimental, name a plane with 200hp that you can't smoke (besides a J  :D )
