jrwilson Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I was checking old forum posts and it looks like the RAM mount is most recommended. I have a 63C, where are people mounting it on the yoke? The C yoke is a bit smaller than later models. Does anyone have any pictures of the attach point area? Quote
Alan Fox Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I mount mine on the shaft of the copilot yoke.....Close enough to be effective , but the only thing it really blocks out is my GEM monitor.... Quote
triple8s Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I have a panel mount for mine and if I have a co pilot that is a also a pilot that's good, but, if I am solo and IFR (busy) I have a knee board for the mini on my left leg and a small spiral pad strapped to the right leg. This way it's close and I don't have to reach......in the bumpy air an extended arm ain't worth a damn trying to do anything on the touch screen. For me? Closer is better if it's rough. 2 Quote
jrwilson Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 I was thinking knee board too. Alan, if it's mounted on the yoke shaft doesn't that limit elevator travel? Quote
MHemperly Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I have mine mounted on the shaft of the pilot yoke. Doesn't effect elevator trim at all, even good in turbulence. Quote
Marauder Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I have an F so my yokes are a bit different. It works there for me. Before I bought anything, I would see if anyone has the yoke mount to see how you would like it. These mounts are like flight bags. Some like one style, others another. I spent way too much money on mounts... 1 Quote

Alan Fox Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I have been in enough cockpits to see the pitfalls and danger of the kneeboard , it puts your attention out of the flying environment , and into your lap..... Not a good place to be........ I yoke mount mine specifically to keep it in the scan area , .. Quote

bhilgy Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 My RAM mini yoke mount works great in my Mooney. Â I just installed my new 496 on the left yoke and mounted the Mini to the right yoke. Â Did a 2 hour instrument session yesterday and that setup was perfect! Â Even if your left yoke isn't occupied, that's how I would recommend mounting the mini. Â I have been flying a C182 prior to buying my Mooney and the RAM fits the Mooney much better.....with the smaller Mooney yoke the RAM/mini combination is a perfect fit. Â That being said, personal comfort rules. Â I'll try to take a picture today or tomorrow to post. 1 Quote
bhilgy Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 Personally have never been comfortable with the kneeboard. Â Again, personal comfort rules. Quote
jrwilson Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 As in what the clamp looks like on the yoke? Sent using Tapatalk  Exactly...The C has a pretty small area where the yoke attaches to the shaft, so I'm worried it would have to attach to the shaft, which I think would restrict elevator travel. Quote
Hank Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I keep a little flexible clamp from Sporty's on the yoke in my C without a problem. It's useful for clipping two or three sheets of paper. when working on IA, I would print out pdf copies of the approaches for practice and clip 'em in there. Out of the way behind the yoke until needed, then swing it forward.  Just got an iPad mini for Christmas, I'm thinking about a suction mount from the left window, because I use the clock in the center of my yoke for knowing when to change tanks and for flight time [total, actual and simulated]. It has hands, which are easier to remember than looking at a digital clock somewhere else, for changing L to R tank. Quote

Let me see if I have any pictures at home. My plane is in for the annual and I won't be able to get pictures for a few days if I need to take them. Sent using Tapatalk Quote

Alan Fox Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 The yoke mount is about 1/2 inch thick , and does not interfere w elevator travel..... Quote
aaronk25 Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 I'll post pics tonight of my mini....I'll run to airport after work I just put mine on 3 months ago and there is a specific ram mount that will allow the I pad to be mouted in vertical position so the top if the mini doesn't interfere with vision of lower panel but still keeps it up as high as possible. Give me a few hours and I'll post a pic as well as share the link of the exact part numbers to but, should you desire the same fit/positioning. Aaron Quote

gsxrpilot Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 I have the RAM mount clamped on the left yoke for my iPad mini. The arm comes out under the yoke and up to hold the iPad. I have a '64 M20C. It works great without any travel restriction. I love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Awqward Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 It probably depends on whether you use paper approach charts (clipped to left yoke) or not...personally I have the same setup as gsxrpilot.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
aaronk25 Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 Ok a lot more than a few hours but here it is...... Sorry for delay....Aaron Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 20, 2014 Report Posted May 20, 2014 I have a panel mount for mine The airgizmo flush mount I've seen only adjusts the vertical angle, does your flush mount allow you to turn the ipad towards you? Quote
