I saw a previous thread about this but it never seemed to have a conclusion.

Has anyone ever had to replace the diaphragm for the step?

Apparently mine is shot, I have been told that there is a place that will "overhaul" the rubber part, although I'm not sure how you rebuild something made from rubber.

Same place that overhauls the rest of the Britten parts. Check the quality of the electrical tape that seals the system?

Use caution when cleaning the spring it will want to spiral up if you don't control it.

This is from a very old memory. It may be incorrect, but it was speedy...

Brittain, Tulsa OK - rebuild for ~ $150. (The MSCs no longer can simply replace the rubber. Has to go to Brittain.) They sometimes have one on the shelf for exchange, otherwise you'll remove the unit, pull the step in and secure it up, plug the vacuum line with a bolt or golf tee & duct tape, keep on flying, and get the unit back in a week or 2.
