I bought a shoulder belt for the right seat of my '62 M20C from LASAR, and today when I removed the panel to install the belt I found stuff I wasn't expecting after seeing the left side setup. The frame tube is completely enclosed within an aluminum  box section. The people I spoke with at LASAR didn't know anything about it. It looks like I'll either need to cut a section of the box out to access the frame tube within. The alternative would be daunting, and that would be trying to remove the interior and remove the entire box section piece by drilling out rivets and such. Has anyone run into this before that can give me some guidance?

My F just has a open bar there, so I can't help with that but noticed there isn't any sealent between the window and skin in the area just to the right of the bottom window clamp. It looks like the person who put them didn't use enough. You might want to check around the rest of the windows also.

I have a 62 C also and I am in the process of installing the same mod, The framing that you are looking at is not structural so it is ok to cut it in order to install the clamp. I used a dremal with a cutting disk. On the right side there is enough room to get the clamp installed by just cutting an opening, but you also need to cut out part of the aft section by the aft window so that you can get on the nut to tighen it. one other thing, the frame is tighter to the fusalge then the later modles so the clamp is a bear to get on.

Thanks, yeah I saw that the box section stopped at the top of the window. It's just to hold screws for the trim apparently. I too got the Dremel and disks out!

Yep, I saw that little gap there. I'll have to get some silicone with the thin nozzle and squirt it in there (and check the other windows).
