Maybe #4 means use of any product which contains alcohol, such as OTC cough syrup.

it may be possible to drink A LOT of alcohol the night before and still be >.04 without touching anything the last 8 hrs.  I guess they use all 3 rules to cover the bases.

The thing is drunks on the road or in the air seem to be protected from personal injury...I keep seeing news reports of a drunk being involved in a head on collision and walking away...something about being relaxed on impact...this guy ,walks away from a night flight involving inadvertant imc and hes to drunk to panic ...he could argue the booze saved his life...

I always thought no alcohol within 8 feet of the airplane, not 8 hours!    Dang it......  Not that I've ever done either......I personally have a 12 hour rule and never to excess.

No you got it wrong.  Its you cannot approach alcohol 1000 feet below or 1000feet above or 1sm horizontally when above 10,000ft but its clear of alcohol when in class Bravo space.

In the class Bravo you just have to be invited by the controller to have a drink with them. Then your good to go!

I've been at 0.09 eight hours after drinking. As for cough syrup, you're looking at 60 hours bottle to throttle for Nyquil.

I have to say it.  I will sometimes pick the time to practice, just so I can tell the tower "N2516V 30 miles out, inbound with Whiskey".  It makes me giggle everytime.  Also makes me giggle that my wife rolls her eyes, everytime.

You could always say "whiskey onboard" in place of "with whiskey"... You know, class it up a bit!

I get as much enjoyment when I announce to Palm Beach approach that "I'm on top of Ivanka". Wonder what Donald would say about that, then again, he has his own waypoint (DONLD) 16 miles away.

So you are

So you are saying that even though Donld and Ivanka are close, they are miles apart?

The FAA waypoint team is definitely the funniest part of the FAA.

Up here in the North Country of New York, nearby KMAL, Malone, New York, there is a way point called Bugsy.

Unforunatly, I have heard stories from an aquantence regarding aviating WITH a case of beer between the seats as a regular friday night after bar outing! .....and multiple accounts of Intoxicated night IMC encounters with.     Amazes me the dumbasses among us !!

Priest VOR (near Paso Robles in California) has as its identifier: ROM

The FAA must have their own Department of Funny Walks (Monty Python for you younger folk) that names intersections and reporting points.

A big difference between driving and flying is that at some level, EVERYONE drives or is exposed to driving.  Efforts to legislate it out of existence are unlikely -- at least until the self-driving Google car has convinced a lot more people.

Unfortunately guys like this reinforce the negative perceptions many in the general public have about private flying.  So we all pay a price;  the positive traction gained by every Young Eagle or Angel Flight is set back by DBs like this guy.  One never wants to criticize a fellow aviator, but it would be easy to make an exception for this indefensible behavior.

As a final note on the original topic of the post I saw where the "Submarine Mooney" was parted out and is being sold on barnstormers.

Great... shouldn't Barnstormers be notified that they're listing parts that have been submerged in water?

Not to mention he probably spilled beer all over everything when he crashed it...
