Lately noticed that when the wing leveler is engaged, the aircraft goes into a slight right bank. The right aileron seems to be slightly raised in flight (about half inch from the chord). Could this be it and I just need to have my rigging checked? Can someone tell me what tools my A&P or even the MSC should have before they attempt to re-rig? I want to make sure they do it the right way.

The autopilot is able to track a heading or nav fine however. I confess to not knowing what the autopilot is looking at to get a sense of wings level.

Thanks

Sounds like a rigging issue. Any MSC should have the story boards needed for rig checking. Could also be something else like a dragging gear. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

You may not need a re-rigging but an adjustment on the wing level function. Next time fly the plane with the autopilot CB pull out to insure is off and with equal fuel in both wings. Climb to about 5,000 ft and reduce power to 15"MP and trim to 140kts IAS. While on the glide check for any roll tendencies. If you bank slightly right does it start banking in the opposite direction after releasing the yoke. Do the same for left bank. If there is no tendency to bank in the opposite direction your rigging is right. If not indicate that here and I will tell you a simple procedure to correct it.

Thanks.. I will try tomorrow and report back

Isn't there a knob to tweak that out? My '67F has an adjustment on the panel.

I think the wing leveler systems are different on the 67F and the 87J because I have seen no such adjustment on the panel at least

Take a look at what supplies information to the wing leveler as well. If it is the turn coordinator or another . They can get oxidized on their connections. Cleaning the connectors can be a low cost solution sometimes?

Bet regards,

Sounds like the wing leveler , as it is only with the A/P engaged ..... Probably a century I or II ... they are built into the turn coordinator....Might be time to call A/P central in tulsa....

Jose -

I went and flew today - weather is a bit lousy in the north east. Had to stay at 3000 feet and got bumped around. But I flew at 140 KIAS level (forgot about 15 MP - I was at 19 MP or so). And there was no tendency of the aircraft to correct itself from a shallow left or right bank. I am going to try again when the weather gets better on Saturday (following your procedure exactly this time) - unless my A&P gets to the aircraft for conducting the annual first - in which case I will have to wait 2 weeks or so

That is a good indication, your plane is properly riggged. The problem you are experiencing is due to the wing leveler. I am not familiar with your system but if it relies on your turn coordinator or attitude gyro check for mounting alignment of these. It may help to clean the   contacts with contact cleaner of all the connectors involved with the system.

Thanks .. will check the contacts after i verify my flight results again with better weather arriving tomorrow. Probably should check my backup AI to which the AP and leveler is connected, make sure its not getting lazy
