Garmin GWX70

Does anyone know something about the GWX68 or the new GWX70. Can it be install on a Mooney? Is it up to the more expensive device?

It would be rather hard to mount a 10 inch radar antenna on a Mooney. I don't think we have any radar pods STCd. As to the quality of the product GWX68 was up there with the best small aircraft weather radars, GWX70 smokes most systems costing ten times as much.

The 231 used to have a wing mounted radar. I only flew one that had it and it didn't work. I hear they didn't work very well when they did work.

I have one of those 231 radars and will confirm, it doesn't work very well. I'm tring to figure out how to have it removed and heal the scare on the wing ( I don't want some ugly sheet metal work).

Years ago when Mooney started selling them the avionics folks (RCA I think) were bad mouthing them.  The antenna was badly compromised to make it fit in the wing.
