If the chances of winning on Powerball is 1:175Millions. It would be profitable to buy 175 million tickets to get a $550 Millions prize. Better than the stock market. Is there something that I am overlooking?

It would take a long time to buy that many tickets. How may tickets can you buy per transaction and how many such parallel operations can you do? Is every ticket you buy guaranteed to be random and not duplicated?

At $2/ticket you're spending $350m. My understanding is that the IRS will withhold 25% off the bat, and then tax you more later. So the most you will ever see is $412.5m. Not to mention that the jackpot will very likely be won by multiple tickets given the run on sales. There might be better investments... but if you have that type of money kicking around, I'd be happy to charge for preparing a more thorough analysis :-)

If you want to be included in the list send me a $100 check for a chance of getting an M20TN. Wouldn't you regret it if I win.

M20TN - you aren't thinking big enough with $400M after taxes.

If I won....

Production at MAC would be assured. Design of the turbine Mooney would be completed. Y'all would be invited!!!

Best regards,

Now that's more like it. With $400M you would see you (or me) in one of those TV commercials that says, "Mooney, I liked it so much, I bought the company!" I mean who would buy a razor company when you could buy an airplane company!

A pressurized M20PresurizedTurbine=M20PT would be the ultimate. Yea we could get a jet (too...) but I dream (also) of a M20PT. If I don't have $400M for that, and "only" a few extra million hanging around, then TBM850. Or if only a several dozen extra thousand to burn - then a new victor engine and a g500 panel for my current bird since it is really the best thing since sliced bread and more than a lil' old bloke like me ever deserved to dream of come true anyway!

325 mil cash less taxes. The news did a bit here. Not a good idea. The 500 is if recieved over 30 years. If you covered every number and IF you were the only winner you would only lose 25 million. Worst gambling odds any where. It is a tax on the mathematicly challenged. This week I am challenged. $200,000,000 after taxes could buy a nice Rocket and gas to run it, for starters.

There was a consortium that did the buy every ticket bit in the '80s, I can't remember exactly how it turned out. but they did have a problem getting all the tickets bought. I think that they were plying a game that had some partial rewards, and came close to breaking even.

But it only takes one ticket to win. Your changes are as good as anyone elses.

Unless you buy every number combination, buying more than one ticket does not increase your chances of winning.

Your not thinking, what if 2 or 3 people win? Your jackpot would be reduced and you may not get your money back. I read an article that you would be better off buying undervalued Blue Chip stocks with your 2.00 per week. Over the long run you woudl be way ahead.

I won, I won, I won!!!!! at the San Lucas retirement home bingo last night. I got five numbers in a row. But I didn't get the prize I wanted, the folding luggage cart. I got instead the adult diapers pack. Top prize was a plot for two with a granite tombstone. Oh well maybe next time.
