M20C door seals

I found some older posts concerning door seals but didn't find much information.  I am in a winter refurb of interior and figured I might as well replace the door seals.  It seems some former owner had covered the aircraft with plastic, gooped black silicone on the door and slammed her shut....And believe it or not the thing seals well and requires no fuss to get the door to shut.....but is ugly.     It seems that a "D shaped hollow seal would be appropriate for these.  What have you'ze guys done?   Thanks Ken

Hi Ken.

I used www.aircraftdoorseals.com We viewed their product at Oshosh last year and it is quality.  Their web site lists only an M20K seal, but they produce door and baggage seals for all Mooneys.  Replacement is labor intensive, especially removal of the old seal and glue material.  Very good instructions do come with the new seal.  It is quite gratifying upon successful completetion.  Hope that helps.

While the process is time consuming, you will notice and appreciate the new seals.  It makes the ride much more comfortable for the person in the right seat.

Yep, lots of patience and lots of cleaning for the most part.  Putting the new seal on was a piece of cake compared to the removal.  Just a bit more patience and accuracy for the install and your done.  You will be most pleased with your work.

Has anyone went with the seal that is applied to the fuselage instead of the door? It is less expensive. I can only think of one possibly negative point to doing this... It could get ripped or snagged upon entry or exit.

What are your thoughts?
