Byron, excellent points. However, what do you do while your original gauges don't work... I had an AP that did not want to sign off my annual because the original CHT gauge was INOP (although I had a JPI 700). I went to another AP and he did not even mentioned that the gauge was not working. However, this time around, I decided that I would like to be fully legal...

Hi Byron, where are you finding a JPI 930 for 3K? The cheapest I found was $5500. Even the JPI 900 is over 5K.  That's a lot of money to put into an old C model probably worth in the mid $30's.

Mine will be when I'm done. Should be under $1000 for a duplicate of the original 6 pack, but with new instruments. I had some in depth conversations with my FSDO PMI about older gauges and having a reasonable solution and not in the $5000 plus category. That price

I went back and fourth on this last year.  The jpi 830 was $2600 and the ones that would let you remove the factory gauges was over twice that. I got the 830 and kept the old gauges. It isn't that hard to keep the old ones functional enough to pass annual. The biggest drawback to this is panel space taken up to 2 different sets of instruments.

Sign me up for the STC on the fuel gauges.  VERY INTERESTED!  I am Extremely satisfied with my G3 that is certified as primary for Cylinder temp and Exhaust.  Provides redundancy on my additional digital EI certified primary Gauges for Tach, MP and oil pressure/temp.  Bonus redundancy on fuel flow, voltage and I get outside temp too.  I did individual gauges as I could afford spreading $ pain out.  My fuel gauges work, but I really use the fuel flow as primary indicator and the gauges as confirmation.  Hope you do the STC on the gauges and the cowl David.
