helle fellow mooney owners. I know this is a relatively stupid question, however i could use the knowledge. When ordering aircraft tires how is the tire size broken down. For example my aircraft comes with 6-6-6 main gear tires. I know the last is 6 is the ply of the tire. But I see tires that are 15.00-6-6.  would those fit on my C model?

thanks guys and gals

what you can use is stated in the service manual and parts manual. you don't want to use anything else that would stay stuck in the gear wells.

Anyway, for what reason would you want to use anything else ?

To work on your aircraft, the first thing you need to procure is  service manual and parts catalog. I bought mine before even accepting delivery of the plane.

As Byron says, get the service manuals and parts catalog and see what is approved.  You can get them in softcopy from Mooney for a pretty reasonable price - http://www.mooney.com/images/pdfs/jumpdrive.pdf

As to fitting 15/6/6 tyres instead of 6/6/6 - well, at a minimum you going to lose a couple if inches in diameter, so your ground clearance is going to be even worse, and as to what it does to your airworthinesss I have no idea, but suspect you are putting the aircraft into the 'Experimental' category and making you the test pilot

FWFW a M20J is a 5.00x5 nose tire and a 6.00x6 main.  All 6-ply.  Since yours is a 1978 M20C, it is likely the same.  Don't make the mistake of re-using the tube as we did. It failed 3 landings later and trashed a brand new 90$ Goodyear FC II nose tire.
