milotron Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 Hi folks, this is a real specific ask, but giving it a try anyways... I am troubleshooting some autopilot performance issues with a Garmin G500-KFC200 installation and am wondering where the correct settings for the Autopilot Configuration, and Flight Director Cal pages come from. The installer had deviated from the default settings for pitch and roll V/deg and we are wondering if Garmin prescribes these settings for each installation or if the default for the KI256 / KI525 are the ones that should be used. There have been quite a few odd settings that have been found or corrected already, but a source of correct values for these data fields has been elusive so far. Thanks!
PeteMc Posted April 27 Report Posted April 27 I don't know anything about the G500, but the Pitch and Roll settings from Garmin are probably a starting point. There are always minor tweaks to get everything to operate smoothly. And did the shop say if they used different numbers from experience? And did they start with initial numbers that were close or were the numbers WAY off? That might make me ask some questions. And maybe the question should be asked at a different shop? Find one a few states away and give them a call. They may or may not be willing to answer, but if they do, you'll know what they do with a G500/KFC200 combo.
milotron Posted April 27 Author Report Posted April 27 Hi, thanks. The aircraft was purchased this way with no history on the installation or settings used. the GDU was replaced/ serviced by previous owner several years ago and it looks like the proper settings were not implemented. For example, when I took delivery it was set up for a DME that did not exist, an ADF is connected through the GAD43e but was not enabled, no V speeds set, Alt capture was not enabled, GPSS was configured for a hardware switch, but none exists, etc... The flight control system settings have been the only ones that we can't confirm. the KI525 emulation is set to default (but it different from what Bendix King references) the KI256 and flight directors settings are both changed from default. Pitch V/deg makes sense being set to 0.6V to match the 5VDC at 25 degrees (but changed from default of, 0.453) but the roll V/deg was set to 0.103 which doesn't make sense and differs from the BK value of 0.2 and the default of 0.168. Local shops don't have history on a fresh G500 install, only the TXi versions.
Jake@BevanAviation Posted April 28 Report Posted April 28 The autopilot configuration page should be set for KI525 and at default values, the flight director page should be set for KI256 and at default values. The GAD43 gyro emulation type should be KI256. You need to align the flight computer to the GAD using the GAD output test. You should follow King installation bulletin 430 using the King flight line test set (KTS 150). If the KTS150 is not available you can fabricate a breakout harness. The GI275 IM shows how to make this harness if needed.

They had a break out box similar to that shown in the GDU700 manual to get to these test points. We just couldn't figure why they had these values in there....
