My annual post to update insurance cost.  I got a quote from Old Republic through AOPA's Assured Partners service for $2200.  $1M liability with $125k hull coverage.  This was after having a claim with them last year for some damage--my IA noticed on annual there was a big scratch under the right wingtip and aileron, which amounted to a $10k claim to repair (which OR was very quick to cover without hassles).  For reference, I have an IR and about 500 hours, and the plane is hangared.

Not bad, especially after a claim. Mine is in the general vicinity of $3200 with 150K hull value and 250/2500 deductible. I have same hours as you, and the plane is hangared. No IR tho.

I'm also with OR; quote came back at ~2350; $50 less than last year. Hull is 100k. This is my second year owning the airplane, IR and I need to check how much time I have. The airplane is hangared during hurricane season but I'm otherwise on a tie down.

I was disappointed that it was only a $50 decrease given I now have time in type and the overall market has been stable/ slight decrease in premiums.

If you are quoting rates, best would be to state your Liability cost, then your Hull and Value.

I just renewed my CAP-10 and @Parker_Woodruff was able to get me to 1 million smooth on the liability, same hull value and about $300 lower premium than last year (was with 100,000 sublimit).

A lot of it comes down to two things:  retract time, and time in type. There used to be a significant break at 100 hours--how many hours do you have?

Huge increase basically do to age, at least I’m insured for another. Hull insured for $650,000 $1,000,000 not smooth, increased from $5000 to $7250, now need yearly EKG, IPC it’s with Brown Ins. Realize I’m being ripped off but at least insured another year. I’m instrument rated 4,000 hours 3,800 Mooney hours and will be 77 this year. I’ll likely try another broker next year if they keep me I’d guess insurance will approximate 10 g’s next year. Never had a claim..

That is still low overall time, low retract and low time in type.   Next year should help.

BTW, with the changes to the regs, Complex is not Retract.  My initial application and updates have asked for Retract time.

Me too. Every excuse to raise the rates. I raised the hull value last year because the plane market is up nicely from when I bought the plane. One claim for hail damage ten years ago (plane was on the tarmac, damage was $1,200). No accidents, 2,000 hours, commercial instrument. $5,000 last year and probably more this year. They are pricing me out.

Premium is ok here, all things considered.  May be able to get you smooth coverage, may not.  Not sure what your deductible is, but there's enough premium here we could negotiate it either way.

If ALL other things considered the same as @Danb's, what would the premium be for a pilot, say, 45 years old?

I'm coming up on 65, myself.  Just curious how much age is actually penalizing us 'seasoned' pilots versus 'prime' (I figured 45 :D)

It wouldn't bother me so much if there was actuarial data that demonstrated age was a factor in claims.  But I've never seen anything published that proves that.

So i became a prime pilot a couple or three months after reaching 100 hours total time, halfway through my semi-ruinous year of New Mooney Owner insurance . . .

I rather think I hit prime several years later, with enough experience under my belt to know what to expect and how my Mooney would respond.
