POH (RPM restrictions)

Recommended Posts

I know the topic has been discussed dozens of times!

But I can’t seem to find a definitive answer on operating RPM limitation for my particular aircraft 1962 M20C

The POH that came with the aircraft looks brand new and I think it’s a generic POH for multiple years?

It shows no restriction?

Is it the booklet POH (see pic)?  Mooney produced an ‘Owner’s Manual’ to provide additional information lacking in the POH that came with the aircraft when delivered.  You should have a POH that’s on 8.5 x 11 typing paper.  It will have your serial number on it and factory weight and balance data with as-delivered optional equipment.  At least, that’s what I have for a POH on my ‘63C.

By the way, Pilot's Operating Handbooks did not exist before GAMA issued it's specification 1 in 1975. Earlier documents were operating manuals, operating instructions, owner's manuals or whatever the manufacturer wanted to call them and varied in information content.

Also, if you’re airplane has a different prop stc, that could have a different yellow arc restriction.  What prop do you have?

This is relevant.

Indeed and those installations should come with revisions to the limitations section of the operating manual/POH as well as a placard for the tach with a revised yellow/red arc.

I have a small placard, but there's no Yellow for my Hartzell 3-blade.

Nope...I's clearly read just like the one in my plane running  two blade Hartzell on your arc is narrower.

That's likely C vs F engines rather than the props.

My Airspeed Indicator has a yellow stripe from 175-200 mph, though.

My arc changes if I change props. Some will eliminate the arc all together.
