Was out flying last night and it was 0dC at altitude and the heater wasn't doing much for me.  Some of the reason is probably the leg well vent leaks air around the edges on the sidewall when the vent is closed.  I was getting warm air from the vent below the throttle quadrant and the rest of the vents, on the right, and the ceiling were closed.

Anyone have experience with this?

There's only one screw holding in the side wemac vents if i remember correctly. There's a washer of some kind between that vent and the side panel. I would make sure the screw is tight and the washer is there and in good shape. You might even be able to put a real thin rubber seal between there and the side panel.

A seal of some sort was my first thought.  Figured I'd ask here before crawling around under there.

Also, you had asked about my T/O FF awhile back when I was talking engine stuff, 29.1gph the other day.  IIRC, that was inline with what you were saying it should be.

I think @DanM20C has a lot of experience with flying in the cold with the heater full blast and not enough heat.

I’ve only got an io-360 and I’ve got reasonable heat down to -10c air temp.  What kind of cool/hot mixing box does yours have?  On the vintage models, that’s where people lose a lot of heat - valve not well adjusted to pump hot air.

you found one leak at the wemac, likely there’s also cold air coming from the back too.  Typically from the hole from baggage compartment into the tailcone.  Open the battery compartment panel and look down and left.  There’s a hole and a bundle of wires.  Maybe some closed cell foam in the hole helps?  You can also feel around the bottom of the door or baggage door in flight (backseat pax helps here) to see if your door seals leak.

Cabin heat isn’t anything I seem to have to worry about. Once I get the cowl flaps closed, the cabin heat will run you out of the cabin. My usual setting is one or two clicks out and then I also mix in a good bit of cabin vent to cool that off. Every now and then, I’ll open it wide just after takeoff, but not for long.
