I was getting ready to do a major avionics upgrade in my M20C when a friend (also a member here in Mooneyspace) offered to sell me his M20F.  I decided to get the M20F as it already has pretty good avionics and will better match my mission into the future.  I keep my bird in a hangar (hangar 31) at KHEG for the last 12 years and I knew the previous owner who kept it also in a hangar.  Annual is not due until 3/2024 but I want to sell it with a fresh annual so I'm flying it to Don Maxwell on 11/30/2023 for annual and IFR cert.  Below are the particulars

Airframe

 • 6050 hours TSN
 • Cowl enclosure
 • Gap seals
 • Relocated brake cylinders
 • Pilot/co-pilot shoulder harness
 • Tanis engine heater
 • Corrosion-X treatment every 3 years
 • Separate Avionics Master Bus and switch
 • Quick drain oil valve
 • Plane power alternator and light weight starter (2015)
 • Landing gear doughnuts replaced (2016)
 • Nose gear steering horn overhauled by Lasar (2018)
 • Lasar nose strut with oversteering stops
 • Paint looks really good
 • Leather interior (2021)
 • Challenger Air Filter
 • Useful Load 994.2

Propeller

 • 1157 TSN (HC-C2YK-1BF/F766A-2), no recurring NDI

Avionics

 • IFR Cert
 • PC works great with separate on/off switch in instrument panel
 • Fully functional Accutrak AP slaved to GPS
 • Backup RC Allen Electric AI
 • GX-60 GPS/COM (will include a working 430W with tray, connectors and antennae that I will be removing from the M20F for upgrade to GTN650)
 • Panel Dock with Garmin 660 hard wired
 • PS Engineering 6000M-S Audio panel (4 place intercom, marker beacons, music input)
 • KI209A CDI
 • Vertical stabilized compass card
 • TKM MX-170B NAV/COM with glideslope receiver
 • JPI730 engine monitor with fuel flow and connected to GPS for accurate fuel required and fuel remaining at destination
 • Stratus ESG transponder for ADS-b out connected to a Stratus receiver behind the panel for ADSB-in
 •  Stratus Power USB panel charger
 • Avionics and lighting rewired with new Approach Fast Stack harness in 2011

Engine

 • 1861 Hours SFRM
 • Burns 1 Qt/10 hours
 • Oil/filter changed every 30 hours
 • Camguard with every oil change
 • Oil analysis all normal
 • No oil leaks

I fly this airplane 100-120 hour yearly.  It will do 142 Kts TAS at 22/2400 at 7500 feet.

M20C prices are all over the place so not sure how to price this.  Engine time is certainly a major consideration although it runs great and nothing will be spared in the annual with Don Maxwell.  I will include spare Brittain AP servos I purchased for spares in case one developed a leak.  Is somewhere in the 50's a fair price?  Please see attached pics.

Seems fair and looks really nice to me, Hector.

IMHO, 1967 models have the best of all worlds in terms of vintage Mooney design features and corrosion proofing. My Mooney is a 1965 model, so this isn't self-serving commentary.  It’s long term hangarage, regular usage, and top drawer maintenance make this one worth strongly considering.  GLWS!

There was a change in corrosion proofing from '65 to '67 ?

Yes.  The rear fuselage in our ‘65 was almost entirely bare metal.  Several years ago we epoxy primed it.  The ‘66 and ‘67 models I have seen came with factory zinc chromating there.

This bird certainly has zinc chromate primer.

This is a great example of "buying" the owner before you buy the airplane. It's not often that you see such a well-maintained airplane come up for sale by a long-time member. If I was looking for a C to buy and fly this one would be at the top of my list. I doubt that this one stays for sale more than a week.

Hector, did you see this message?
See Maddpilot on Facebook.

Thanks, no I did not see that but I got 3 folks in wait at the moment and I have not advertised anywhere but Mooneyspace. Before i advertised in Mooneyspace I did respond to a post in another forum where someone was looking for a plane and I’ve been in contact with that person since then. He is near me so I’ll be flying to his airport right after the annual so he can look at it and looks like he is ready to buy. Hoping to get it back from Don Maxwell before Christmas.

Any details on the final price?

Selling for $55k. Annual at Maxwell is complete. I think I priced it too low as the demand has been high but that’s what I told the first person interested and I’ll keep my word. Lowest compression in the mid 70s. Flying to Maxwell next Wednesday (1/10) to pick it up. Potential new owner will probably meet me there and I’ll fly the plane with him to its new home near Atlanta. That C was so good to me I’ll be sad to see her go. My new F is growing on me though.

N2976L has found a new home.  The new owner met me at Maxwell to pick it up and we flew it back to Atlanta where it will now reside.  Met his family and they are all supper exited about the plane, just great folks.  His son is a pilot too and they are all looking forward to new adventures.  Was feeling sad about letting N2976L go but feel much better now because I know it has found a good home.

What better way for a first flight with the new owner that going back to Atlanta with a 40+ knot tailwind!!  The old C was doing 193 Kts ground speed.  I did let him know to expect 142-145 Kts true airspeed for typical flights, but we had smooth air at 7500 feet and the Accutrak AP kept us on rails all the way.  Arrived at West Georgia Regional at 7:30 PM after a great flight.  Stayed Overnight and the next day flew again with the new owner.  He is a pretty good pilot and was handling the Mooney without difficulty including landings.  He does have an instructor and will continue with him until he meets insurance requirements.  Lots of discussion over lunch and dinner about Mooney flying/maintenance and I mentioned Mooneyspace several time and hope he joins this great community.

A word about the Maxwell annual.  It did not disappoint!  They found some discrepancies that were probably missed during the last annual.  Nothing huge, but was very impressed with the attention to detail and how thorough the inspection was.  As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.  I wish he was closer to Florida, but I think I will let him do the first annual in my new M20F just to get a good baseline.  I may not take it to him every year, but I think I will work him into a rotation to make sure my new bird remains in good shape.

Really happy for you and new owner Hector.  This is how the selling and buying experience should be undertaken.  Enjoy your F sir.

Hector,

We met when you accompanied Evan to NJ, when he bought my Mooney N9559M.  Is this the F that you are buying?  If so, please consider me to be a resource if you ever have questions about the history of the plane, as I owned it for 35 years, or if you wonder why certain maintenance or upgrade decisions were made.

Thank you Glenn and yes it is your F that I purchased from Evan. It’s such a nice bird I told Evan when he purchased it from you that if he ever wanted to sell it to call me first. He did and I could not pass up the opportunity. She is going to get a little upgrade in February replacing the 430Ws with GTN650 and a she will have Two GI275s for attitude indicator and HSI. Her panel still going to look the same because I like it the way it is, just a bit more modern boxes. Greatly appreciate the great care you and Evan showed for this bird and I will take good care of her as well.

Hector,

Thanks for the reply.  I am glad that the airplane will be in good hands.  I would appreciate it if you would ,forward a picture when you update the panel. I guess that I still have an emotional attachment to that airplane.

I sure will Glenn. I had an emotional attachment to my C and I only owned it for 12 years. Can’t imagine 35 years.
