Purchased my '67 F last summer and absolutely love it.  Unfortunately it's severely lacking in the modern avionics arena.  I've decided on installing a GNC355 GPS, dual G5s, new clock with USB ports and a new metal panel.  I'm gonna stick with the flat original design on the panel but I'm still trying to figure out how I want to lay everything out.  I've chosen my avionics shop and have the avionics on order. Scheduled for late August, early September.

So if you've had a recent panel makeover, can you share some pics of your panel?

I had G5s in my last plane and I installed the GI-275s in this plane. Not trying to talk you into more $$$ but the 275s cover a great deal more for about $1.5-2k more. They essentially can replace your whole six pack. I opted to keep some steam gauges because "it just looks right". I have started this week on installing my EI CGR30combo. That will put everything in front of me and nothing on the copilot side. I'll put an iPad mount over there and glovebox. Have fun!! I wanna see before and after shots!

Here's how I updated my original panel... Not shown, on the left is redundant airspeed indicator and turn/bank coordinator.

This is what my panel looks like after a very similar upgrade.  Behind the left side of the pilots yoke is a Garmin double usb charger that you can’t see.  I’ve made a new cover plate for the hole on the right side of the panel but haven’t taken a picture since I made it.

I would absolutely recommend the GI 275s for vintage Mooneys.  In addition to the extra features they allow the removal of up to 4 instruments that gives you more flexibility with a panel that is a bit challenged for space.

Up and locked is a RED light? On the J it’s unsafe (in transition), there is no light for retracted gear.

Behind that blank spot is the tray for a second screen as well as remote comm and transponder. A glovebox would be a nice option tho.

Me too! Actually I just want a great spot to put my cell phone. It normally falls out of my pocket and falls behind the seat somewhere.

Yeah it’s always on when up. Super annoying when trying to use LED lights (went back to regular bulbs) because they are so damn bright at night. I know there are cateye shutters on them but even barely cracked open, they’ll still make you think you’ve been lasered. In transition there are no lights on, just watch the gear window on the floor.

Yeah I thought long and hard about the G5 vs 275 debate. I’ve flown behind the G5s and really like them a lot. The 275s are very nice and the displays are great but for me there’s just too much info. And I wanted to stay on a bit of a budget so I can do the interior next. I’m still debating with myself on what engine monitor but am leaning toward the 275 for that.

I will most definitely post the before and afters!

BTW where did you get the Mooney logo for your panel? I want to do that on mine! The avionics guy mentioned doing a custom logo so I’m all for it!

The logo was made by a fellow Mooney owners wife. She just made it with her Cricut. Find the design you want and pick out any colors you want from a local craft store. Super easy.
