CGKEM Posted April 4, 2023 Report Posted April 4, 2023 Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has come across a vendor that sells the Charlie Weight (Ballast weight) assembly PN 350203-505. Or if anyone has the assembly kicking around that they want to sell? Thanks! Quote
LANCECASPER Posted April 4, 2023 Report Posted April 4, 2023 Contact a Mooney Service Center and they can be ordered. 1 Quote

This is from Chandler Aviation who wants $657 for them and I was hoping to find some salvage ones. It appears that the entire assembly was removed from my bravo at some point. 350203-505 Charlie Weight Assy 350203-001 Weight (6lbs) 350203-003 Weight (7 lbs) 350203-005 Weight (6 lbs) Quote

Wow I could see how weight and balance could dictate taking one weight off the back if the vacuum pumps and a new panel weighing less was installed, but all three?? (Most panel upgrades reduce weight but don't do nearly as much for balance since some of the boxes for the old avionics are removed from the back.) Without any charlie weights in the back of a long body, that must be interesting to land. 1 Quote

Time to get your maintainer to cast one for you, or you casting one for him. Quote

KSMooniac Posted April 4, 2023 Report Posted April 4, 2023 I can't imagine steel wouldn't work, so long as the weight and hole pattern are correct. Would you approve an owner-produced version in steel, assuming they're cut to 6 or 7 lbs to match the factory versions? Quote
carusoam Posted April 4, 2023 Report Posted April 4, 2023 This is quirky… was there a light weight prop mounted up front? or did somebody add an O2 bottle? or Fiki system or AC? There is lots of volume back there for alternative metals to be selected… A nice stainless block to meet your Bravo’s requirements could work well. the local gym supplier has some nice steel blocks for their gym equipment… Be sure to have your mechanic review the details with you… WnB is too easy to make critical math mistakes… + look extra hard to find out why the old ones were removed… there isn’t a logical reason to just take them out, undocumented… there are a few Bravos and an Ovation that have flown west to be recycled… see if @Alan Fox is familiar… pp thoughts only, -a- Quote
