vorlon1 Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) So I'm looking at the cable connections to the Concorde battery and they are attached via an M8x1.5x16mm COPPER bolt. They're showing their age (unknown) and I would like to replace them, but I can't find a source in the US. Anybody have an idea where I can get these without waiting for weeks? N201MKTurbo Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 You could ask me to send you one from an old battery in my hangar. Quote

Should I infer that new batteries should come with them? My battery is only 3.5 years old--and dead I'm afraid--but the bolt looks much older... Quote

mike_elliott Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Concorde will also send you some if you call them. I needed some extra length bolts for my battery minder harness which they gladly sent NC 1 Quote
vorlon1 Posted December 28, 2022 Author Report Posted December 28, 2022 PM sent. Still though, it would be good to have a source if anyone knows of one... Quote
A64Pilot Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 It’s not copper but I forget what it is, They are readily available, I bought a bunch on my boat as I was building bus bars I think it’s silicon bronze or maybe beryllium copper? 1 Quote
vorlon1 Posted December 28, 2022 Author Report Posted December 28, 2022 Thanks Mike. Looks like you hit the send button before I did... 1 Quote
A64Pilot Posted December 28, 2022 Report Posted December 28, 2022 Terminals and bolts are silicone bronze https://legacy.concordebattery.com/flyerprint.php?id=149 Our General Aviation batteries are designed with terminals and hardware of silicon bronze alloy providing a corrosion free, low impedance connection. 1 Quote
vorlon1 Posted December 28, 2022 Author Report Posted December 28, 2022 Nice. Thanks. Still.... source for replacements other than concorde? Quote

Luckily, I found an old relay in my junk box and was able to salvage a contact and gave it to the machine shop and they made the part I needed. I hope they didn’t get berylliosis. The part worked great. Quote
vorlon1 Posted January 5, 2023 Author Report Posted January 5, 2023 Follow up: After looking all over the interweb, I called Concorde, and they indicated that these are hard to find by design to discourage those with a "do-it-yourself' attitude. As indicated by Mike Elliot above, Concorde with send you some if you call them. 1 Quote

A64Pilot Posted January 6, 2023 Report Posted January 6, 2023 They are just standard 8mm silicon bronze bolts, no special thread etc. But for some reason 8mm silicon bronze bolts are hard to find, but I doubt that’s by Concorde’s design. 8MM is very close to 5/16” and is a standard battery terminal size. They use the same bolts on their non aviation Lifeline batteries. I believe I bought copper bars and 5/16” silicon bronze bolts to make bus bars from Georgia Copper and some copper strap for my High Freq radio ground, but I don’t think they have 8mm. Quote
