William A Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 I have a 1984 m20J. What do y’all do to mount an iPad to the yoke? See attached pic of what I started to buy but need confirmation that I’m buying what I need. I have an iPad 8th generation 10.2” screen size (9.8” vertical) but may need to get a mini so it fits better. This yoke seems smaller than the Cessna 172 I’ve been flying. Quote

flyboy0681 Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 Those four components are what you need for a Mini and are what I use. Here is what my mount looks like. 1 Quote

flyboy0681 Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 Yes, short arm, but your mileage may vary of how low/close you want the iPad to come out. Quote

Pinecone Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 I just ordered one of these, as I could not get the angle I like. https://www.sportys.com/ram-double-socket-swivel-arm-rap-b-200-2u.html MyGoFlight has a nice articulated arm, but around $130, plue the cradle, so over $250 for the setup. I use a full size iPad in the CAP C-182 I fly, but the Mini fits better in the Mooney. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 Good thread William! We haven’t discussed this topic since about last week… or Tuesday…? I’m guessing the search function changed and it isn’t searching the whole MS… only searching this thread…. The other threads for iPad yoke mount can be found in this link… enjoy! https://mooneyspace.com/search/?&q=iPad yoke mount&quick=1&item=43211&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

midlifeflyer Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) My only recommendation is, do not buy that cradle. A form fitting cradle fits that iPad and that iPad only. You upgrade to another - even another Mini - in the future and you might as well throw it out. That's what I did when I bought one for my first iPad. It also has a closed back which increases the likelihood of overheating. within the RAM world, go with the X-Grip or Tab-Tite cradle. There is also an excellent RAM-compatible cradle from the ARKON Robust line. This is their full yoke mount but I just bought the cradle to attach to my 11 year old RAM clamp. There is a lot of truth to what you said. I have had to buy two cradles in the last seven years. Quote
rbp Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 I got this one. It works great. It mounts under the yoke ARKON Robust Clamp Tablet Mount with Security Knob Retail Black https://a.co/d/eJWFxqw Quote
Pinecone Posted August 26, 2022 Report Posted August 26, 2022 The problem with most of these systems is, the arm between the mount and the cradle only articulates on one plane. So if you rotate the mount to move the ball over to the left, you can no longer move the cradle up and down or tilt it straight up or down. That is why I ordered the part linked before. The setup from MyGoFlight looks like it might address this, but at a high price. Quote

My complaint about "perfect fit" is about throwing out, not buying. Edited August 27, 2022 by midlifeflyer Quote

This is why I love forums! Thank you I would have never thought of that aspect until after the fact. I’m now looking at the other cradles that fit varying sizes 7-11” and open backs! Quote

For the OP, this is true when upgrading from gen 5 to gen 6 of the mini. gen 4 and gen 5 form factor are identical. Quote

And if you saved your earlier cradle (they're cheap, about $18 each), the iPad mini 6 fits in the cradle from the iPad mini 1. Quote

The 6 sort of fits. The Mini 2 has rounded edges and the 6 are square. So you can stuff it in there. Quote
