Rjfanjet Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 In case anyone is interested, this is what a 54 year old relay with 3900 hours looks like on the inside. 1
N201MKTurbo Posted August 24, 2022 Report Posted August 24, 2022 Still looks pretty good. A lot of copper left on the contacts. Did it fail? If so did you determine why it failed?
Rjfanjet Posted August 25, 2022 Author Report Posted August 25, 2022 Didn't fail, but had one on the shelf. Starter wasn't working. Ended up being a loose connection on the back of the circuit breaker...... Lesson learned. 3
carusoam Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 Great details shared RJ! Nice pics of the starter relay internals… Best regards, -a-
PT20J Posted August 25, 2022 Report Posted August 25, 2022 Interesting. Is there some sort of mechanism to rotate the round contact to even out the wear? The pitting looks pretty even around the whole contact.
Rjfanjet Posted August 26, 2022 Author Report Posted August 26, 2022 Don't know. I would assume it rotates like an exhaust valve does. I don't have that mechanical knowledge. 1
