When the Acclaim came out back in 2006 I didn't care for the Whelen 600 series Nav/Strobe that Mooney went with. I've heard other people describe them as a wart on the wingtip.

The previous enclosure on the wingtip on the Bravo/Ovation/Encore/Allegro, etc  looked a lot better.

I was sure that Whelen made an LED upgrade, but my first thought after I recently bought the airplane in November was just to leave them in place until they started to fail down the road. But then I saw an Ultra at the Factory Service Center with the new Whelen LEDs - so much better looking.

I began to justify it by thinking that if I did it when everything worked that my power supplies would still be worth something, but if I waited until something failed then they would be worth nothing.

On Monday I ordered the Whelen OR6002R (Red), OR6002G (Green) and OR5002V (Tail) from @OSUAV8TER. James shipped out yesterday and I received them at 11:30 this morning. I got the wiring done yesterday and finished up this afternoon. I sold my power supplies and covered 1/3 of the cost.

You will love them!

I replaced my vintage J (blunt wingtip) lights with Whelen Orion LEDs in 2017, and then further upgraded last year with the Aveo STC wingtips & integrated LEDs.  I wish Mooney had done something like this instead for the newest models, and perhaps with forward-facing recognition/landing/taxi lights too.  It looks so much better than the stick-on lights, especially for an airframe that is otherwise sleek and fast.  (to be fair, many bizjets have the warts too)

Would you post a pick of the retrofitted lights? Does the footprint/form factor match the old one?  Any paint work required?
