So on a Piper we had a clear tube we could dip down into our tank and verify how much fuel we had left with a quick calculation. Is there something like that for Mooney? I can't find it anywhere and I want one. Especially as I'll be making some long cross countries and would like to cross check burn rates and such.

Yes.  You can calibrate a universal one.

That's what I use. Add a little gas, dip and mark; add a little more gas, dip and mark.

Mine came with the plane, the previous owner did this in 2 gallon increments [my C holds 26 gallons per side], then etched it into the plastic with an electric engraver. I have a picture somewhere on my phone . . .

Find the thread on making a dip stick…

@Bob_Belville had a specific wood he like to use… Some slat he robbed from his honey bee’s set-up…

There are ways to make your readings reliably repeatable discussed there as well…

The 90° cut of the bottom of the slat was helpful… compared to a dowel or fuel tube…

Calibrating the stick is done the old fashioned way…

Start with an empty tank, and fill a couple of gallons at a time…

Marking the stick as you go….

You will immediately notice…. The gas cap is pretty far up hill from the fuel pick-up…

So it will take a few gallons to get the bottom of the stick wet…

In some Mooneys… the fuel cap location is even further up the wing…

PP thoughts only, hope that helps get you started…

Best regards,
