Looking to buy my first aircraft and I think Mooney is the one, any local ones I can take a look at?

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to GA, having gotten my private not even a year ago. But since then I fly as often as a work and a young kid will allow (more once I realized young kid loves it too). I joined DiamondShare for a while, which was a nice experience but I had neither the need or desire to fly a brand new airplane, but more importantly I didn't like all my $ being spent on a lease with no hint at equity and ownership. Hence, I went down the long and research filled path to try and figure out what I want in an airplane, and I really feel like the vintage Mooney C-F is the ticket for me and my family. Large enough for a pretty small family, affordable, reliable, and enjoyable to fly. I've spent every waking moment since that realization creeping this forum, memorizing Jimmy's guide, and in general preparing myself for purchasing and owning an aircraft. The only thing I haven't ticked the box on is actually setting eyes on one in person, and it feels kind of silly to buy an airplane without ever having seen it in person. None of the guys at my old flight school know anyone that has one, and other than stalking my FBO like a creep, I'm not sure how to go check one out so I figured I'd drop a line here.

I'm in the DC metro area, and don't mind driving. If any of you all have a Mooney C-F they're willing to let me lay eyes on, I'd give you a six pack for your trouble!

Thanks in advance, and let me know if there's a better way to go about checking on out than bothering you guys.

You could always see what is for sale near you and go looking.  I mean nobody wants to waste anyone's time, but it sounds like you have decided a mooney is right for you except for the uncertainty of the inside of one, So who is to say you wouldn't be a buyer when you get shown one you like?  If I was a seller, I would give a show and tell to a potential buyer like you.

Mooneys are a bit like a sports car, a bit difficult getting in and out, but once you are in they are fine.  Also, compared to other aircraft, your legs are more straight when you are sitting in it vs sitting in a chair.  Like an F1 car vs a truck.

Negative, still looking. There was one for sale down in ROA (about 4 hrs from me) but it sold before I had a chance to rent a plane to go see it, lol!

Watch the classified section on this site religiously. Also, if you are not on All Americans email list, get there. @jgarrison sends out an email with new inventory that is not yet on his website fairly regularly. In fact, he just sent out a new email just last week. Find him.
