N9405V Posted December 23, 2021 Report Posted December 23, 2021 My airplane is going to have a very extensive annual and avionics install in February. I’m going to have the interior significantly removed and want to replace all of the old fiberglass insulation. Any recommendations for insulation type and how much I need for an E? PilotX Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 Check SoundEx they may have a pattern I put .75” in my Bravo. I cut cardboard for templates and used a regular box cutter. http://soundexproducts.com 2
AerostarDriver Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 You can get the Mooney SB208.B Kit from Don Maxwell. Its about 700 bucks for the complete kit but it is die cut, peal and stick. 1
PT20J Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 I bought some bulk material from a MSC that got it from Mooney -- same stuff they use in production. It's foam about 1/2 thick with aluminized mylar on one side and adhesive on the other. Mooney has burn certs for it. I understand that Aerocomfort also has material available. Skip 1
M20F-1968 Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 You can buy SoundEx material from Aircraft Spruce. I do not like the stuff that sticks to the skins as you can never inspect if necessary. I just placed it between the tubes and used 3M Aluminum tape to hold it in place. The website is: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/soundex7.php?clickkey=23792 The 3M tape is: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/3malumifoiltape.php Both are not cheap, but both are excellent products. Do not buy less expensive aluminum tape. It will not stick. I used the Soundex behind the side panels and in the ceiling. John Breda 3
LANCECASPER Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 I've used Soundex in a couple of Mooneys that I had, when I had the interior re-done. It is an excellent product and yes, buy it from Spruce, it's a better deal. Ironically it didn't do a lot for quieting the airplane - the number one noise is the door seal, or lack thereof. But it does help a little with the noise. It does however do great things for temperature. Much easier to heat in the flight levels and stays cooler in the summer. 2

LANCECASPER Posted December 25, 2021 Report Posted December 25, 2021 One more thing to add, Soundex recommends that you using an electric carving knife to cut the product, which I thought was strange. But who am I to argue with them? Off I went to Walmart and bought and electric knife, like you would use to carve a turkey, and sure enough it worked really well. 1
skykrawler Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 I think it will also add a few pounds to the airplane. 1
Belso Posted December 31, 2021 Report Posted December 31, 2021 I don’t really care, I use it as a 2 seater plus plenty of luggage and full fuel 1
