FlyingScot Posted November 27, 2021 Report Posted November 27, 2021 From beautiful over the NC mountains to Snow, ice in the layers, and a low approach in the grips of the Great Lakes Snow & Ice Machine… 2 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Breakfast at 1S9, Chewelah, WA. About 30 degrees out but sunny. Runway was slicker than I thought and almost ended up in the dirt turning off a little faster than a walk! Recovered and very slowly rolled down to the next exit. Great breakfast at the Rusty Putter! 5 planes flew in this morning! Departed for a scenic flight over Sandpoint ID and Lake Pend Oreille. 3 Quote
EricJ Posted December 6, 2021 Report Posted December 6, 2021 Went over the Grand Canyon today and it was on fire. 2 Quote

Made a lot of smoke and it went down into the canyon. Got a lot of very cool pics from it! Edited December 7, 2021 by EricJ 1 Quote
0TreeLemur Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 I think our airframes cast the coolest shadows... On an IFR flight yesterday over Fort Smith, AR, enroute to Tuscaloosa, in the tops at 9000 in our C. 4 Quote
EricJ Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 My new FB background pic, also from yesterday: 1 Quote

0TreeLemur Posted December 7, 2021 Report Posted December 7, 2021 Just now, ArtVandelay said: I like the halo effect, I wonder what’s causing that? Preferential backscattering of light towards the sun by the cloud droplets. Spheres act a bit like tiny mirrors with a tendency to scatter more light back towards the source than other directions. 1 Quote

I've always been told that the circular rainbow around the shadow is caused by ice in the clouds . . . . Quote

exM20K Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 @Greg_D came by to bring my TN to DMAX for annual. I think it's the first time since i've owned it that someone else has flown it. Was a little weird watching him fly away. The plane is much quieter from the outside than I thought it would be. Maybe I need to ask Maxwell for some of those Loud Pipes the Save Lives when installed on Harleys. Really appreciate his making the trip as my schedule got packed this week. 2 Quote
FlyingScot Posted December 20, 2021 Report Posted December 20, 2021 Today 3 hours of cloud deck as far as you could see punctuated by the Appalachians “peeking” above the deck. Everything was smooth and tranquil right up through the approach - then on short final winds variable from 30deg to direct crosswind 12G20. Whoever said “there isn’t such a thing as too much crosswind practice” was absolutely right - 1 Quote
