Went flying today with another mooniac, and was having difficulty with the Glide Slope on the G5's.

From the IAF to the FAF on LPV approaches, I had no difficulty and the Garmin 430W was showing LPV.  As I passed the FAF, the Glide slope did not transition to standard vertical guidance and remained with " No GP" (or No Glideslope Precision), without an indicated.  The LNAV function continued to work.  It even showed LPV on the HSI G5, just No GP.

We tried this on two approaches today.  The ILS worked just fine and showed LNAV and GS without a problem.

And yes all the data on the 430W is current and up to date, including Nav Data and Terrain.

Thoughts on the cause of this?  Is this a G5 issue?  Is there a wiring problem from the 430W?  As the 430W showed LPV in the Left lower corner I don't think it was a RAIM or GPS source issue.

Has anyone else had this issue?

What approaches were you flying?

I've flown several LPV approaches and haven't seen this behavior. But the manual suggests that the approach may have lost VNAV after the FAF (see below).

2.3.1.2 VERTICAL DEVIATION (GLIDEPATH) INDICATOR - GPS
SOURCE
The Vertical Deviation (Glidepath) Indicator (VDI) also appears to the left of the
altimeter (PFD page) and to the right of the compass rose (HSI page) during a GPS
approach. The glidepath is analogous to the glideslope for GPS approaches supporting
WAAS vertical guidance (LNAV+V, L/VNAV, LPV). The Glidepath Indicator appears
on the G5 as a magenta diamond. If the approach type downgrades past the final
approach fix (FAF), “NO GP” is annunciated.

I had no messages and everything was nominal. Before, at, and after the FAF No GP was displayed with LPV showing on the 430w.

Hold the “Ent” key on the 430W when you power it up to get into setup. The first page to show up will be ARINC 429 setup. At the bottom of the screen it should have a Vertical setting that will show “Disable Labels” or “Enable Labels”. If is is disabled, this is your problem. Change to Enable and problem solved.

hello I tried this and I was unable to exit out of the menu. I could scroll through the various Menus but couldn’t get out. Hopefully I’m just pushing the wrong button. Anyone else run into a similar issue?
