daytonabch04 Posted November 20, 2020 Report Posted November 20, 2020 I’m at oil change now and was just told 4x fine wire spark plugs were cracked at the base. My annual was only 30-40 hours ago and somehow missed. Of course they don’t carry fine wire plugs on hand so he recommended switched either 6 or all 12 to massive spark plugs. I chose to switch all 12 instead running 6 and 6 of each. I run mostly ROP so hopefully I won’t see too many issues over the short term.

The cracks would have happened on fine or massive if over-torqued. 1

Danb Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 Lance my Bravo also runs great on tempest fine wires also, I had Champion fine wires for 120 hours of which 4 of 12 failed switched to tempest with perfection 3
Seth Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 I haven't read anything - but wanted to quickly chime in. If running ROP, it doesn't matter. If running LOP, fine wire tempest made such a difference over massive champions for me in an IO550A. So much so that I'm amazed by it. I could run LOP but could "feel" it ever so slightly with the champions. With the tempest, there is no way to tell I'm running LOP from the feel. It runs just fine. Significant fuel savings for just a few knots slower and a cleaner running engine with no negative vibration. -Seth 1
Cruiser Posted November 24, 2020 Report Posted November 24, 2020 Are Tempest Fine Wire plugs approved for the IO-550G engine ?
